Speaking in Doha, Blinken described the killing of the son of Al Jazeera’s Gaza bureau chief as “an unimaginable tragedy.” Hamza al-Dahdouh, 27, was a reporter like his father. Veteran Palestinian journalist Wael al-Dahdouh, 53, also lost his wife and several other children earlier in the war.
Israel has named former Supreme Court president Aharon Barak as its representative on an International Court of Justice panel set to hear allegations this week that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, according to Israeli media reports. The case was filed by South Africa. Israel has denied the allegations.
At least six Palestinians were killed in an Israeli strike on the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank, authorities said Sunday. The Israel Defense Forces said an airstrike struck a person who “hurled explosive devices” and that six were killed. The Ramallah-based Palestinian Health Ministry also confirmed the deaths in a Facebook post.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Sunday denounced calls from cabinet ministers to forcibly displace Gazans. “I’m saying outright, officially and unequivocally, this is not the Israeli position,” Herzog said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
At least 22,835 people have been killed in Gaza and 58,416 wounded since the war began, the Gaza Health Ministry said. Israel estimates that 1,200 people were killed in Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack.
