‘Leave them on the shelves’, yells money saving guru as she lists 10 TK Maxx ‘bargains’ you should never buy
TK MAXX - the place of all the latest fashion and beauty bargains on the cheap. Or is it?
The popular discount retailer, which now also sells hugely discounted Charlotte Tilbury makeup, is one of the nation's favourite stores for good reason.
But although shoppers may assume they're getting the best items - whether that's trendy clothing or homeware - are the deals really that good?
Here, to help YOU slash the costs is money-smart shopper Kathryn Leech, better known to her 39,000 fans on TikTok as Kat Saves.
Chatting exclusively with Fabulous, the Londoner listed the 10 buys which you should better leave on the shelves if you want to save money.
Beauty sponges
''You can find loads of different beauty sponges in the make-up section but I personally would never buy them,'' Kathryn said.

She noted that the prices are actually quite expensive and instead, shoppers can get them so much cheaper from Primark or even Poundland.
''They’re just sponges, they’re really all the same.''
Unknown skincare
The money-smart shopper warned: ''The shelves are packed with random skincare items at cheap prices, but I’d always advise to never buy skincare from brands you’ve never heard of.
''You’re not actually saving money when you impulse buy a random product that could potentially not work with your skin.''
Bath bomb sets
According to Kathryn, ''bath bombs in general are a waste of money'', especially when it comes to the sets TK Maxx often offer.
''They’re not any cheaper than the supermarkets.''
Makeup
''The makeup items are often of poor quality and I found so many that had been opened and used still on the shelf!'' she claimed.
In her eyes, it’s simply not worth buying when you can get something for new from Boots or Superdrug - and use a points card to get money off.
Nail varnish
Buying cheap nail varnish from unknown brands could be a huge waste of money if you don’t even know what the consistency’s like or how the colours really look out of the bottles, Kathryn explained.
Seasonal decor
''When did Easter wreaths become a thing?" she sobbed.
''If you’re buying a piece of decor for one season it’ll just sit in a box for the rest of the year.
''We already do this with Christmas, there’s no need to waste your money and be doing this all year round.''
Vitamins
''There’s something about buying cheap vitamins from unknown companies that just doesn’t sit well with me'', the rising TikTok star told The Sun.
Instead, she advised to best stock up on all the essentials from ''more trusted brands in supermarkets or Holland & Barrett''.
Another pro tip was using your loyalty cards to get money off.
Winter clothes in winter
''…or summer clothes in summer!'' Kathryn said.
''You’ll get some huge discounts if you buy your clothes in the opposite season.''
She added that TK Maxx have clearance sections filled with winter clothes as we’re going into the summer months - so now would be the time to grab the biggest discounts!
“Scrub Mommy/Daddy” sponges
Although many of us may assume that TK Maxx often offer the best deals, it's not always the case - and Kathryn's discovery serves as proof.
''I spotted these sponges for £2.79 and a quick Google search let me know that they’re only £2.50 in Tesco!
''Certain products might look like great deals but I’d always recommend doing a bit of research to check the prices elsewhere.''
Hot chocolate bombs
When it comes to slashing the bills and costs, one of the first tips was to steer clear of buying anything gimmicky - such as hot chocolate bombs.
''These are such a waste of money because they’re just a bit of a gimmick!

''They never melt into hot chocolate properly and you’re not actually saving money when you impulse buy them because they look interesting.
''Stick with a tub of hot chocolate powder for way cheaper,'' Kathryn said.
