I survived a traumatic ectopic pregnancy but feel too scared to try for another baby
DEAR DEIDRE: AFTER surviving a traumatic ectopic pregnancy, I’m not sure if I want to try again for a baby.
A year ago I was rushed to hospital as a medical emergency.
It was so traumatic and now my partner and I are wondering if we can risk it happening again.
I am almost 40 and my partner is 42. We have been together for almost five years and have a wonderful relationship.
We always planned to have children and this would have been our first baby.
We were both anxious about it, especially as I am classed as an older mum.

I conceived very easily, but one morning after a few weeks, I suddenly became unwell, with bleeding and stomach pains.
I knew something was desperately wrong but even then I never imagined I’d lose our much-wanted baby.
Now we don’t know which way to move forward, whether to try again or not.
I don’t know how I feel about living my life without children.

DEIDRE SAYS: Losing a pregnancy can be devastating.
Deciding whether to start trying for another baby can be tough, but most women who have had an ectopic pregnancy will be able to get pregnant again, even if they have had a fallopian tube removed.
