In her viral video, Madi Prettyman (@chooseyourglow) showed her followers the technique and explained how it works.

The TikToker explained that the hack reveals "exactly which ingredients would be best to treat your under-eye circles."

She demonstrated how to carry out the "pinch test" under each of your eyes.

Madi recommended gently pulling the skin under your eye and noting if the dark look disappears or if it stays on the skin.

Depending on the result, you should be able to assess the best course of action.

She explained that if the darkness disappears it means your skin is thin.

Madi recommended using an eye cream that builds collagen, such as Vitamin C.

According to experts at WebMD, Vitamin C is a vital ingredient when it comes to anti-aging.

"Vitamin C applied to the skin can encourage new collagen to grow," they explained.

"It also helps maintain the collagen you do have and protects the precious protein from damage."

On the other hand, if the darkness stays that means your skin is discolored.

She advised anyone with this result to invest in a product that helps to resurface and brighten, such as retinol.

Get Healthy Skin broke down the role of retinol in brightening your complexion.

"Retinol helps fade hyperpigmentation by making dead skin cells shed faster and encouraging new skin cell growth," they explained.

"The darker stained skin cells come off and reveal newer, brighter, more even skin cells underneath."
