I’m a Vinted pro – here’s my top tips for selling your old clothes, including why 25p can make all the difference
WHETHER you want to declutter your home or make a bit of extra cash on the side, Vinted is a great way to sell your old clothes.
Vinted is an online marketplace where people can buy and sell second hand clothes, shoes and accessories.
It's completely free to upload clothes to the app and, unlike other sites like eBay and Depop, Vinted does not take a cut of sellers' profits and instead charges buyers a small fee to purchase each item.
Starting a new account can be daunting, and you may be wondering why your clothes aren't selling as quickly as you thought.
Well, don't fear, as a Vinted pro has shared her top tips for flogging your old clothes on the website.
Katy Stevens shared her tips via a video posted to her TikTok channel, @katykicker.
She often uses the account to share side hustle tips and tricks.
BUNDLES
Katy's first tip is to list clothing items that are the same size at the same time.
She said that if you are short on time, you can you can list a few listings every day and then save them as drafts.
Then, once you've cleared out the entire size, you can set them live at the same time.
She said: "People like to make bundles, so this way, they've got more to choose from".
OFFERS
Katy's second tip is to send offers to people who favourite your items.
She said: "I've found that even just knocking 25p off some items means I've made sales."
"You can send a little message with your offer that says you offer discounts on bundles."
PATIENCE
Katy's final tip is to "have patience".
She said: "I know this is probably an obvious one.
"It does take a little bit of time for sales to start to trickle in.
"Once you've got five star reviews you will make more sales".
Katy's video has clearly left many impressed, as it has racked up over 70,000 views on the video sharing platform.
TikTok users raced to the video's comments section to share their thoughts on Katy's tips.
One user said: "I started selling stuff and so far I've made £768. I love it. "
Another user said: "Great tips".
Online marketplaces like Vinted and Depop have millions of users across the UK, with the cost-of-living crisis only increasing their popularity.
What are the new Vinted rules?
Since January 1, digital platforms, including eBay, Airbnb, Etsy, Amazon and Vinted, must share seller information with HMRC as part of a crackdown.
You're unlikely to be affected if you only sell a handful of second-hand items online each year - but firms now have to pass on your data to HMRC if you sell 30 or more items a year or earn over £1,700.
It is part of a wider tax crackdown to help ensure that those who boost their income via side hustles pay up what they owe.
While your data won't be shared with HMRC if you earn between £1,000 and £1,700, you'll still need to pay tax as normal.
Financial pressures in British homes saw sales of second-hand goods jump by 15 per cent to £21 billion in 2022.
One in six people now say they buy used items, according to research commissioned by review site Trustpilot.
So, now’s the perfect time to make yourself some extra cash on the likes of Vinted.
