Mike Brewer & Fuzz Townshend BOTH agree on ‘best tip’ for drivers looking for their dream motor & it’s completely free

MIKE Brewer and Fuzz Townshend have both agreed on the "best tip" for motorists looking to snag their dream car - it's completely free.

The expert car heavyweights often keep drivers in the loop on the best motors to cop and how much to pay for them.

The pair agreed that the best tip to follow for dream-car buying is to join a dedicated motor club ahead of the summer.

Reason being, anyone looking to drop dosh on a historic car can benefit from a wealth of information about it from current club members.

Fuzz said classic car enthusiasts should "get amongst" other owners because they can help with things like large restoration projects.

He mentioned there could be other motorists who own the same car that you're looking for and could offer tips on things like car parts, prices, and hacks that could ease the strain of getting a classic car up and running.

He told the Daily Express: "What I would say is join your local car club or the car club that's appropriate for the type of car you’ve got.

"Go to the meetings, talk to people, they’ve always got a technical expert there. Rely on their expertise because you might buy something that's 20 or 30 years old and someone will have been working with them for as long as these cars have existed."

He went on to say that you could even benefit from mistakes made by current owners of the same model of car you want and avoid making the same ones.

It's the same tip that's been suggested by his industry peer, Mike Brewer, who went further and said it would be worth joining them even before buying your dream motor.

He said: "Fill your library before you fill your garage. Gather as much information as possible you can about the car you're targeting or interested in."

Mike said drivers can do this by "joining the owners club" and it could even be the best route to finding the car you want, as members could already know the best places to look.

10 TOP TIPS WHEN BUYING A MOTOR

  1. Make a budget: Work out what you can afford, particularly if you plan to take out a loan. Work out monthly repayments – and stick to them.
  2. Do your research: Check vehicles of similar age and condition so you aren’t paying over the odds. And if a car has not got its V5C (log book), walk away.
  3. View safely: If you are buying privately check that the listed keeper is selling the car from the address stated on the V5C. Don’t meet at an isolated location. Also cross- reference the V5C against the chassis number and registration.
  4. Check paperwork: This includes service history and the MoT history online. Make sure the mileage matches the paperwork. How long is left on the MoT and are there any advisories?
  5. Inspect carefully: Look at the interior and exterior in daylight so you get a good view. Uneven panel gaps or paint that doesn’t match can point to damage that’s been poorly repaired. Check all the windows open and close and that the air conditioning works. Chafed seat belts and shiny steering wheels and pedalscan signal heavy use – does that fit with the odometer?
  6. Go for a decent test drive: Listen for any noises or handling quirks. Check it’s cold when it starts up. If they have pre-warmed it, it can hide cold-starting issues. Any danger signs of blue smoke out of the exhaust are more likely to show up starting from cold.
  7. Check everything is there: This includes the spare wheel (if it is meant to have one), vehicle handbook and spare keys. Does the car have locking wheel nuts and is the adaptor there?
  8. Check its history: Before you agree to pay anything, do an HPI check with a company such as the RAC.
  9. Don’t carry large amounts of cash: Be careful as you could be scammed or robbed. And always get a receipt – even from a private seller – as a form of proof. Get the V5C new owner slip, too.
  10. Keep your options open: Have other cars in the pipeline. Be prepared to walk away if it’s not what you are expecting.

MORE FROM MIKE

Mike Brewer recently spoke about how he was being “scammed" after losing access to his Facebook account.

The presenter was left fuming after his social media account was hacked "by scumbags".

Elsewhere, he was left speechless when his damaged Porsche was perfectly restored, saying it looked like it "rolled off the production line".

The star admitted accidentally damaging his classic '80s sports car as a result of a major storage error.

Finally, the Wheeler Deelers' star opened about how his love of cars began in a tell-all interview.
