Hong Kong Observatory issues third amber rainstorm warning in a week amid heavy downpour

The weather forecaster added that heavy rain might cause flash floods, and residents should stay away from the shoreline.

It said a thunderstorm warning issued at 4:45am would remain in force until 10:45am.

Squally thunderstorms were also expected, with intense gusts reaching 70km/h (43mph).

Intense thundery showers associated with a trough of low pressure were affecting the coastal areas of Guangdong province, the forecaster said.

It said the weather would remain unsettled with occasional showers and thunderstorms in the next few days.

Temperatures for the coming nine days were expected to range between 22 and 31 degrees Celsius (71 and 88 Fahrenheit).
