I built a 270-sq-ft tiny house in my 50s with no experience – I love it but raising kids here would’ve been a nightmare

A HOMEOWNER has encouraged others to build a tiny home after they successfully did the same with no experience.

While they love their home, they explained it's not for people who want children.

Redditor Trek2tinystudio shared their home experience in a viral post.

"I've lived in my DIY 270-square-foot tiny house for over 5 years now...still in love with a simple lifestyle," they said.

Photos of the cozy space revealed a full kitchen area, complete with a dishwasher, a sink, a stove, and storage space.

In the summer, the Redditor even converted their outside space into a farm with an outdoor patio.

Many were impressed with what they did with limited space.

One was happy to hear that the Redditor was in it for the long haul.

"Cool to see a long-term tiny houser," they said.

"I always wonder how many people jumped on the trend and put in a bunch of effort and money only to abandon the arrangement after a couple of years."

While the Redditor understood the sentiment, they explained that there was a reason people moved on from their tiny homes.

"Probably a lot. Trying to raise my kids in this space would have been a nightmare," they said.

"I've always loved the simplicity of camping/backpacking and knew this lifestyle would work for me.

"This house cost me $30,000 to build using all new materials; nowadays, you see $150,000 tiny houses."

Many were curious about how they managed to put together their ideal tiny home with $30,000.

"Could you give a quick rundown of what the [money] got spent on?" asked one curious viewer.

The Redditor explained that the money went to supplies and they were able to save by doing it all themselves.

"Everything... 24-foot Iron Eagle Trailer, construction materials, windows, roofing, insulation, plumbing, electrical, siding, paint, stain, flooring...everything!" they said.

"But I did all the labor."

Others were impressed that they were able to pull the project off with no help.

"This is my absolute DREAM one day! Proud of you. Looks wonderful!" said one commenter.

"I was in my 50s when I built this house with no prior experience," the Redditor replied.

"If I can do it, anybody can do it with enough drive. Keep dreaming!"
