Sutherland died Thursday in Miami, Florida, per The Hollywood Reporter.

The Honorary Oscar recipient was father to Emmy-winning 24 actor Kiefer Sutherland and veteran CAA Media Finance exec Roeg Sutherland.

The Canadian actor, born on July 17, 1935, shot to fame in 1967 in the war movie classic, The Dirty Dozen.

He enjoyed a long career that saw him star in big Hollywood blockbusters and high-profile TV shows.

The actor was married three times over his life.

His first wife was Lois Hardwick from 1959-1966, then he married Shirley Douglas from 1966-1970.

Sutherland and Shirley had twins, Kiefer and his sister Rachel.

At the time of his death, he was married to Francine Racette - the pair wed in 1972.

The couple had three sons, Rossif, Angus, and Roeg.

Sutherland's son Kiether addressed his father's death with a touching statement on X, formally Twitter.

He wrote, "With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away.

"I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that.

"A life well lived," he concluded.
