Israeli media reported that an Israeli delegation is expected to head to Qatar to move forward discussions over a potential cease-fire and hostage deal, following negotiations in Paris last week. The Washington Post could not immediately verify the trip. On CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel wants a deal to free the hostages held in Gaza, and he said he hopes Hamas will abandon what he called “crazy demands.” Those demands include a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and negotiations for a permanent end to the war, he said.
“Very little” aid has entered the Gaza Strip in February, the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) said, noting a 50 percent reduction in delivered supplies compared with January.
At least 29,692 people have been killed in Gaza and 69,879 injured since the war began, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between civilians and combatants. Israel estimates that about 1,200 people were killed in Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack and says 240 soldiers have been killed since the start of its military operation in Gaza.
