Fans had already been left fuming earlier this series when the show killed off iconic actress Hayley Mills, 77, just moments in to the episode.

It comes just weeks after they were left begging for the show to make a comeback after a delayed start but now it seems that many had wished they hadn't bothered.

Now, fans are up in arms about the 'rushed' elements of the show and have even threatened to switch off.

Hitting out at the programme on X - formerly Twitter - one fan said: "Love Death in Paradise but not feeling it with these first 2 episodes, feels like there's something missing."

Another then added: "I agree. I think the plots are okay, but the characters got less colourful and the background stories became a bit boring. No little quirks anymore.

"I'm still hanging in there but I wish they brought back the fun into the show somehow."

A third person penned: "This season does feel as though something is missing. Miss the fun and uplifting mood that was once felt amongst the gang.

"Feel as though this gang is not as united as previous groups. They used to attend festivals together or participate in the Island traditions. Even as simple as hanging out together at the shack, drinking, eating, or just having a good time."

Whilst someone else said: "Love this programme!! But these first two episodes seem a bit rushed.. & there’s no vibe to the episode as there were in previous ones."

One fan even offered up a brutal warning to the Beeb about what they needed to do in order to keep the fans intrigued.

Amid recent cast shake-ups, they pleaded to the show's producers: "Please bring back the old cast."

Earlier this series, Academy Award-winning actress Hayley played Nancy Martin, a nursing home resident who was enjoying a visit from her cousin Eloise (played Juliet Cowan), who was from the U.K.

The episode began with Nancy enjoying a game of bingo at the nursing home, but she quickly clashed with her arch-bingo-nemesis, Barbara (Ellie Haddington). After losing, Nancy stormed off, leaving Eloise and Barbara inside to finish playing.

However, the camera then cut to Nancy alone on a bench where it became clear she was dead, having been stabbed with her own knitting needle.
