I was a Celebrity Big Brother star – now I run an animal charity and have saved the lives of 43,000 dogs

BIG Brother has seen the likes of Gemma Collins and Tiffany Pollard launch global careers.

But one star of the celebrity instalment of the hit social experiment has gone in a more surprising direction.

Lorenzo Borghese is best known in the UK for his appearance on the tenth series of Celebrity Big Brother.

He is the son of Prince Francesco Marco Luigi Costanzo Borghese of the noble Borghese family.

The 51-year-old personality flew over to the UK in August of 2012 to take part in the third installment to be televised on Channel 5.

His fellow housemate included names such as Martin Kemp, Julian Clary, Cheryl Fergison and Coleen Nolan.

Now, the reality star has been revealed to be a huge part of a significant animal charity.

Raising awareness for Animal Aid USA, he took to his social media with a video about the work the charity does.

Alongside the clip he captioned the post: "We @animalaidusa have managed to save over 43,000 dogs since 2012.

"Everyone who works with us is a volunteer. No salaries are paid.

"We do it because we believe no dog should die for crimes they didn’t commit and we realize that dogs are truly a gift to us from God.

"Please follow us and help us share our story. And thanks to all who have donated either their time or money to help us save lives."

He added: "We couldn’t have done this without you!"

The star first appeared on the hit series on Channel 5 in the summer of 2012

On the show he lasted 22 days inside the infamous house, but this was not his first rodeo into reality TV.

The Italian aristocrat was previously featured as the leading man for the ninth series of The Bachelor in 2006.

Away from his his various TV appearances and his animal advocacy he is also a cosmetics entrepreneur where he founded the Royal Treatment line of bath, body and skincare products.
