SHE describes herself as a "skinny minnie".

So imagine Maddy's surprise when she was fat-shamed during a Pilates class.

She took to TikTok to explain what had happened, as she began: "My Pilates instructor just called me fat.

"I'm just still trying to make that make sense.

"Any context, and it simply does not.

"Oh, my God!"

She went on to say that she usually lives in Los Angeles but was in Oregon, so decided to try out a new Pilates studio - because she's in the process of training to be a Pilates instructor.

When she began to "tune in" to the instructor's conversation in the class, she realised she was "hitting us with a lot of backhanded compliments".

She then said she assumed the other women in the class were regulars, so put the backhanded compliments out of her mind.

The class continues, and the women are doing the swan pose on the reformer machine.

The pose requires you lying prone with your legs and arms extended out in front of you, and then as you push up, you arch your back.

"She's been eyeing me all class," Maddy continued.

"She comes over and she's like, 'Do I have permission to touch and address you?'

"So I'm up in the swan, and she's poking my side. And she was like, 'You should be flexing right here. You should feel it right here'."

Maddy told her that she was flexing, and "that muscle is as flexed as she's gonna be".

"And she, like, kind of looks at me and she goes, 'For someone this thick, you should really feel it more'.

"When I tell you, I like, I just, like, I clocked out, haha. But I'm like, dying laughing. Not that it really matters - I am not a big gal. I'm pretty. I'm a skinny minnie lady.

"Even if I was thick, though. Pardon me? What? I'm like, don't even know where to begin.

"We just kind of move on.

"And she was pretty flustered cause I was hysterically laughing. Like, I wasn't even hiding it.

"Of course it comes from a little bit of embarrassment and also just like the absurdity of the comment."

She then continues class and continues to "make a couple of comments".

"Like, if you're a little bit bigger, what does size have anything to do with your Pilates practice? Nothing. Your size has nothing to do with the strength that you have in your body.

"You could be the tiniest little skinny little nugget and you could have like very little strength compared to somebody who is like, like a plus size woman or plus size person.

"They could be way stronger and hold that plank for f**king 10 minutes. You have no idea.

"Weight has nothing to do with anything."

After the class, Maddy said she just "kept staring" at the instructor, willing her to apologise.

"I won't be returning for multitude of reasons, but I don't know, I guess all I can take away from that is it's a learning experience," she concluded.

"Like I said, like, I'm I myself in training to be a Pilates instructor. And you know what, you will never, ever hear something like that come out of my mouth to anyone that takes my class.

"Or anyone ever."

Sharing the video on TikTok, Maddy captioned it: "I absolutely cried about this after the shock had worn off!"

In the comments section, other people revealed their own fat-shaming stories, with one writing: "I cancelled my Pilates membership after the instructor asked if I had JUST given birth.

"I have never been pregnant".
