But one member of her staff has told how that comment left the late Monarch "as angry as I'd ever seen her".

As a child, Her Majesty used to say 'Lilibet' as she couldn't pronounce her name.

It soon became a nickname for the Queen, with husband Prince Philip often calling her by it.

The Sussexes welcomed their daughter Lilibet on June 4, 2021.

Harry, 39, and Meghan, 42, later said claims they had not asked permission to use the name were false, defamatory and should not be repeated.

They said at the time: "The duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement - in fact his grandmother was the first family member he called."

But when the Sussexes asked Buckingham Palace to "prop up" their version of events, they were "rebuffed".

The revelations have been laid bare in royal expert Robert Hardman's new biography: 'Charles III: New King, New Court. The Inside Story'.

Mr Hardman's book also alleges that neither King Charles or William have read Spare - but they've been briefed on key points.
