Harmby Falls in Leyburn, Yorkshire, is an impressive natural water feature which can be found just off the side of a main road, right next to a pub.

The unassuming street looks like many others in the Yorkshire Dales, with a few rows of cottages and its village boozer, the Pheasant Inn.

However, if you know where to look, you can find Harmby waterfall down a narrow pathway.

GPS Routes described the walk as a "hidden gem" and explained how people can find the falls in a matter of minutes after arriving in the village.

"It's located just opposite the Pheasant Inn with a path leading down to the falls.

"There's another well maintained footpath to follow a short distance with the falls surrounded by attractive foliage."

They also recommend taking in the surrounding village afterwards, with both "nice old stone cottages" and "a delightful little stream" there for people to enjoy.

One person who followed their advice was Instagram user Dasha (@sheexplores_uk).

She shared a video of her trip to the falls, writing: "Did you know there's a row of houses in a Yorkshire village that has a hidden secret behind them?

"On a normal street in North Yorkshire, you can park on the side of the road, right next to the path leading to the waterfall.

"It's a 2 minute walk through a beautiful woodland."

Her followers were amazed by the hidden gem, with one writing: "I think I went there as a kid and always thought I imagined it! This was such a cool video to find!"

Another said: "Magical place."

There are several other hidden waterfalls that can be found throughout the UK.

Batman falls

Film buffs might not know it, but a piece of Hollywood history can be found in a deep gorge in the Brecon Beacons national park in Wales.

The falls are known as "Batman's Waterfall" after they featured in Christopher Nolan's hit film The Dark Knight Rises.

Henrhyd Falls is where people can find the caped crusader's hidden cave.

Hardraw Force

Gayle Beck is found near the confluence of the River Ure and gushes through the streets of Hawes, a tiny market town in the Yorkshire Dales.

It leads to Hardraw Force, one of the most visited spots in the area and one of the country's biggest waterfalls.

Tumbling more than 100ft, the falls are are located behind the Green Dragon Inn, a tavern that has been in its current location since the 13th century.

A third added: "Such a cool little place and not well known even to those a couple of miles away."

The falls are described as "peaceful" by Atlas Obscura, who also recommended the walk through the village.

They wrote: "A blissful walk down one of two rustic woodland pathways leads to the cascading waters of Harmby Waterfall.

"The waters flow down into a small creek traversing the forest floor.

"The Harmby falls are beautiful and peaceful."

The pub just opposite the falls is a perfect place for refreshment after a walk around the village.

The Pheasant Inn also has a caravan park attached to it, making it a great place for visitors to the area to stay while exploring the rest of the Yorkshire Dales.

In fact, the Pheasant has been labelled by Camra's Pub Heritage Committee as being of "outstanding national historic interest" because some of its fixtures date back to pre-war times.

It's described as a "friendly country pub with few frills and an old fashioned atmosphere" by What Pub.

Its licensee has been in situ for more than half a century and it has a small cosy bar, with a roaring fire, perfect for cooler evenings in the Dales.
