Black sand beach in the UK with crystal clear waters is near award-winning distilleries and ‘fairy pools’

A UNIQUE beach in the UK has been described as one of the country's most beautiful places, with its dark sand and clear waters impressing visitors.

Typically, people tend to seek out beaches with soft white sand, but one in Scotland draws people for different reasons.

Talisker Bay Beach on the Isle of Skye is home to clear blue seas, but its waves lap up onto black sands.

It's a rare sight, seen only in a few other places in the world, like Iceland and La Palma in the Canary Islands.

The beach is also home to a waterfall that drops straight into the sea, as well as some impressive sea stacks that make photos of the bay look even more dramatic.

One person who had visited the beach and was amazed by what she saw was Instagram user Nikki, @wanderwithred.

Eight world-class UK beaches

A third backed up her recommendation, adding: "One of my favourite places in the world."

Getting to the beach is very easy, with a gentle walk leading visitors to the stretch of shore, which has even been described as the best on the island.

Walk Highlands explained: "A very easy walk to a truly enchanting sandy bay, the finest on Skye.

"The setting is superb, with a dramatic sea stack, and great cliffs down which a waterfall plunges to the sea. Magical on a fine evening."

It's not only people who visit Talisker Bay either, with common dolphins frequently spotted swimming in the sea just off the coast, making it an even more scenic location for tourists.

The coast isn't the only place on Skye where people can go for a dip in a dramatic-looking location.

Fairy Pools

On the northern slopes of the Black Cuillin range, the isle's famous Fairy Pools can be discovered.

The pools are crystal-clear blue natural ponds dotted along the hillside along the River Brittle.

Their location makes them a little bit chilly for a dip most of the year, but in the summer months, after a hike, they're a great place to cool off.

Talisker distillery

Another highlight on the island is the Talisker distillery, which has won plenty of awards for its famous scotch whisky.

It's the oldest working distillery on the Isle of Skye and can be found right on the shore of Loch Harport.

Visitors can book tours and taste the whisky in the distillery's visitor centre.
