In her viral video, Jordy (@organisedsimplicity) revealed the storage items that are actually making your area look more cluttered.

For her first recommendation, the Instagrammer advised her audience against investing in clear storage containers.

She explained that the boxes "make the space look messy as you can see clutter."

However, some viewers highlighted the benefit of being able to see the contents of your container.

"Clear tubs are essential for me. Not sure if it’s an ADHD thing but I have to be able to see things," wrote one person.

"I disagree on clear storage solutions if you don't live alone," another follower said.

"Being able to see the contents increases the chances of my husband returning items to the correct container by 83%.

"He doesn't read labels, no matter how pretty I make them."

Jordy also suggested steering clear of wire baskets for decor or storage.

She pointed out that smaller items can easily fall through these containers, causing more of a mess.

For her next tip, she explained why she picked one storage theme and stuck with it throughout her house.

Jordy said that "mismatched storage solutions" are the equivalent of "visual clutter" in the home.

If you're choosing an overall theme, the expert advised against opting for "cheap fabric cube storage."

She told her viewers that these containers often don't hold up over time.

Jordy pointed out that the boxes usually "lose strength and shape easily."

Budget interior design tips

Interior designer Judy Hoang shared her furniture tips with The U.S. Sun.

  • Thrift furniture and paint it to match your decor.
  • Test if an item is fit for its purpose before thrifting.
  • Shop at Target or HomeGoods for rugs, lamps, desks, and pillows.
  • Invest in classic timeless pieces.
  • Set up smart home lighting to save money.

She also told any homeowners to avoid featuring certain turntable decor throughout their space.

Jordy explained that the "cheap small bamboo turntables" are often unstable.

She added that the cheaper wood can also make stains difficult to remove.

Instagram users shared their thoughts on the advice in the comments section.

"I’m so glad someone finally said it about clear bins. I feel like I’m literally looking at boxed-up clutter," wrote one viewer.

"I totally agree except for the clear storage bins. There is a place for them in my home, but it is indeed out of sight," said another follower.

"Oh, the cheap Kmart fabric tubs are the worst!" commented a third person
