Plumber’s ‘best home remedy’ for eggy smelling drains revealed – and it cost just 1p and lasts for weeks
A PLUMBING expert has revealed how to get rid of those grim eggy smells that can linger in your drains sometimes.
The best part is it will only cost you one penny, and it's supposed to last for weeks too.
The gross eggy smell is usually caused by a blockage in the drain, as food scraps and other waste products can build up over time.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, the plumbing experts at BlockBusters have revealed how homeowners can banish the stench for good.
It's not just your kitchen drain that might smell, the pros said if you have bad smells in your bathroom they could be coming from floor drains in there too.
Just like in the kitchen, soap scum, hair and other material can lead to foul smells.

The "best home remedy" for this is to stick to using bleach, but the pros at City Plumbing recommended diluting the beach with water to help do the job that bit better.
Not only will this help your bottle of bleach go further, but it will also make it work more efficiently.
“To get rid of the odour – and the build-up – you can mix one part bleach with one part water and pour it down the drain," they explained.
It's also important to note that while it's ok to mix water and bleach together you should never mix and other cleaning products together.
This could cause a nasty problem with potentially lethal effects - so steer clear.
And if you're in a pinch and don't have any bleach to hand, you can help banish smells using just hot water.
They said: "Hot water is still effective and can easily break up smelly blockages."
However, you should be careful when pouring boiling water down certain types of sinks, like ceramic ones, since the heat change and cause cracking.
Alternatively, the experts suggested using a simple piece of equipment called a drain snake.
“It works by extending itself along the length of the drain and can clear hard blockages," the pros explained.
Other tricks to unclog blocked drains
Bathroom experts at Victorian Plumbing revealed using baking soda and white vinegar can work perfectly to get things moving again.
Simply add three teaspoons of baking soda into the drain and slowly pour in 500ml of white vinegar, the told Express.co.uk.
Leave the solution for five minutes so that they can react and begin to “break down” any buildup.
Whilst the solution breaks down any buildup, fill a kettle and pour the boiling water down the blocked sink to flush the blockage.
You can repeat this process if needed.
Next, the experts recommended biological washing powder.
They said: “Using washing powder to unblock a sink is a great technique due to the enzymes it contains.
“These enzymes are used to break down fats, oils and grease in your clothes, which is why it can be used to unblock your sink.”
