But one interior designer, who won £250,000 for her designs on a Channel 4 TV show, is here to help.

Tara Rodrigues starred in the Big Interiors Battle hosted by AJ Odudu - winning the show for her unique and trendy designs.

The mum-of-two also runs her own interior design company, Tara Rodrigues Interiors and has shared her top tips on what not to do in your small bathroom.

She's also got some tips on three must-do hacks to create a stylish space.

DON'T use only one colour

Do not fall into the trap of oversimplifying a small space, it can still have some character.

Tara says it's easy to fall into the tendency to oversimplify a colour scheme.

She says: "The first big no-no is using only one texture or colour.

"In a small bathroom, there's a tendency to want to oversimplify the scheme, turning it into an all-white lab!

"Don't do this.

"Small spaces can still be exciting and inspiring."

But there are still some rules around using colours - and what colours should be avoided.

DON'T forget about your tub

If you've got a bathtub in the room don't forget about it.

It's a huge feature which can have so many things done with it.

Tara says: "As well as being a much missed opportunity for adding additional storage underneath - one of my favourite tricks is running the floor tiles onto the bath panel to create the illusion of more space."

DON'T install fluorescent lighting

Getting the lighting right in a small bathroom is essential.

And while the quantity of light is important so too is the temperature.

It's actually key to getting the impact you want from your bathroom.

Tara says: "There's always room for ambient lighting so try some recess lighting or candles."

DO use mirrors

Mirrors are a clever way of bouncing light around to make the space feel brighter and more spacious.

And you can have fun with a mirror.

Tara says you can pick one to suit your specific style that works within the space.

DO go bold

Just because it's a small space doesn't mean it has to be boring.

Tara says you should lean into the bathroom and make it a talking point.

She advises: "Try a faux foliage feature wall or go for a dark paint colour on the walls and ceiling!"

DO maximise every nook and cranny

To make sure you're using every inch of the space try getting creative with storage.

Use the walls for shelves, hooks and cabinets.

Tara says: "Smart storage and layout - maximise every nook - try recess wall niches or a recess wall cabinet for toiletries.

"Every centimeter counts, so try and maximise clutter, for example, positions towel hooks behind a door.
