One paediatric nurse shares her controversial bedtime methods in a popular clip online that gained over 241K likes.

Courtney, who goes by the name of Courtneyenglish.ot on TikTok, makes bedtime look easy with her heartwarming bedtime routine clip.

Her sensory techniques are controversial for they ditch the gentle methods most parents use when attempting to wind the children down after a long day.

In her caption the mum of one explains:

“It can be difficult to calm your child’s body before bed. Try these during your next bedtime routine!”

BLANKET PARACHUTES

With just a blanket and some soft teddy’s you can recreate this fun imaginative parachute game.

Let your child choose some soft toys to come along for the ride and ask your child to hold on tight to two corners of your blanket while you hold the other and whoosh the teddy’s in the air.

Courtney urges parents to “use this to connect with your child while offering multi sensory input”.

PILLOW CHOPS

Chopping pillows might be a fancy way to make the bed in the morning but now with the advice of this nurse you can chop the pillows to unmake the bed too and get the little ones involved to get them all worn out before bed.

The paediatric nurse explains how this particular sensory activity “sends a signal to the brain to calm down. Proprioceptive input for self regulation”.

TODDLER PILLOW SANDWICH

Another easy method using your pillows to sandwich your energetic little one in between your bedroom pillows will be sure to get them in fits of giggles.

Although many parents might think this method will get the children over excited before bed, the sensory nurse explains how it in fact, “helps your child to feel relaxed, calm and safe”.

TODDLER TOSS

By simply swinging your child and throwing them on your bed for a well cushioned landing you could, according to this mum, be helping them to wind down before bed.

The nurse explains that this is a “linear vestibular input with a regulating crash at the end” which helps your little ones to regulate their emotions better.

BUBBLE MOUNTAIN

Lastly, the bubble mountain technique could be used as your last time technique before brushing your teeth because it involves water.

Simply fill the sink with water and allow your child to use a straw to blow bubbles.

This method is said to “shift your child’s nervous system from high arousal to a state of rest” captions Courtney.

Some viewers question the paediatric nurses' methods because they look more like playtime than bedtime activities.

One commented saying:

“These all seem like things that would get my daughter excited and hyped up.”

To which the mum of one replied:

"Hi! Yes great question! Heavy work after always calms down the mind and body! Anything pushing, pulling, carrying, lifting, climbing!"

Another chimes in saying:

“I feel like I can never do this as it just hypes my son up and ends up taking so much more time to settle him down.”

Meanwhile, What time should children go to bed and how long should they sleep for depending on their age?
