CHANCES are you'll be doing a lot of cooking over the next few days, and your trusty air fryer might even see some action.

So, if you want to get yours spick and span ready for Christmas, or want to know how to clean it afterwards, fear not.

Fans of cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch have shared their best tips and tricks to banish grease from the gadget for good - and you don't need any fancy products.

They took to the popular Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group after one woman asked for advice.

She wrote: "My air fryer is so dirty. I use liners for some items but often just shove the food in there to cook.

"I've tried washing up liquid but it hasn't worked, does anyone recommend anything else?"

Luckily, the keen cleaners had the perfect solution, dishwasher tablets - and the best part is it will only cost you 5p.

"I soaked mine overnight with hot water and a dishwasher tablet. Then gave it a good scrub after using Elbow Grease. Mine is a glass one, it's ideal," one person suggested

A second agreed: "While you think soaking should work, it often doesn't, you need to take it up a notch and use something like a dishwasher tablet."

“Using a dishwasher tablet with some hot water works wonders to remove grease and grime," another commented.

And someone else chimed in: "Dishwasher tablets are great to get rid of grease, I use them to clean pots and pans as well as stained dishes."

However, it's important to use dishwasher tablets, rather than pods.

These can be bought from most supermarkets, including Asda for just £1.34 for 30 tablets, which works out at 4.5p each.

How to use dishwasher tablets to clean your air fryer

To use the tablets, simply add it to hot water in your air fryer basket and let it soak for at least 10 minutes.

It's importnat your air fryer is unplugged when you do this, and always check the manual beforehand.

After 10 minutes check to see the progress by wiping any stubborn spots - if the grime slips away easily it's ready to rinse.

You can soak it for longer if needed.

Other tricks to clean your air fryer

If you don't have a dishwasher and have no tablets to hand, there are a few other tricks you can still use.

Fabulous previously chatted to Mira Yordanova, owner at TopCleaningGB, who recommended using baking soda to get your air fryer looking as good as new.

Mira said: ''The basket and the grilling plate can be removed on most air fryers and so one hack which is both effective and safe, is the use of baking soda.

''The abrasive nature of this household product means it can be very effective at lifting residue and grease.''

''As shown in many TikToks, simply create a mixture with a little water and rub on to the grilling plate and basket, gently scrub with a microfibre cloth and wash away!''
