I’m sick of my neighbours because their home stinks – it makes the postman gag & I can smell it through the walls

A FAN of Mrs Hinch has taken to Facebook to seek help after the smell from her neighbours' home was driving them crazy.

The person, who remains anonymous, explained that the unpleasant aroma from the family's cooking had become so unbearable, they were ''losing'' their mind.

''Our new neighbours are a large family and are renting the house next door to us,'' the social media user wrote in their post.

''They are kind lovely people who will happily take in our parcels, smile despite the majority of the household having a language barrier and for those who are able, always stop to chat.

''However, the smell of cooking is beyond strong - to the point where I’ve seen postmen gag when they open the door.''

The author, a fan of the cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch, claimed they had tried just about anything to banish the scent, which was not described - however, to no avail.

''This smell leaches through our walls, through our extractor fans (kitchen and bathrooms), and I’ve spent a small fortune trying to combat this between plug ins, candles, reed diffusers, Febreze, electric wax melts running all day.''

The situation, the person went on to reveal, had become so intolerable, they're no longer able to take a relaxing bath - however, the Facebook user would also prefer to avoid any confrontation, as the family ''truly are good people''.

Seeking advice from fellow Mrs Hinch super fans on the platform, the cleaning enthusiast wondered if anyone could share effective ways to minimise the aroma.

''It’s really starting to upset me, just now I wanted to take a bath and I couldn’t because the smell is so strong that I wouldn’t be able to relax in the room (despite all smell combatting measures taken in this room).

''I would be mortified to say anything to them, and I really want to avoid making a report to the landlord or the council, as they truly are good people.

''I just want an effective method that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

''Has anyone got any (helpful) suggestions, tips or tricks that might stop me from pulling my hair out due to the frustration?''

The post, which had been shared on Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It was soon inundated with a number of responses - but most people said it was just a part of having neighbours.

''People cook spiced foods, some people smoke weed, some people keep rubbish in their garden that smells - it's just the way it goes.''

Someone else chimed in: ''I remember a friend of mine had a similar problem.

''Her next door neighbour would put kippers in the bath and then hang them to dry, nothing covered up the smell.

''Maybe air purifiers would work? Or candles, incense sticks, diffusers?''

Another reckoned: ''There's not really anything you can do.''

''I'm confused as to what cooking smell would make you want to gag so bad,'' a fourth hit back.

Recently, an estate agent shared easy ways to get rid of smells in your home – and no, Febreze and candles WON’T do the trick.

Although spraying some Febreze may sound adequate, Amanda Callender explained that most people are “nose blind”.

“But every house has an odour, so how do we eliminate this odour? Because yes, you are nose blind to it.

“... and I’m not talking candles or Febreze because that’s like putting perfume on somebody who hasn’t showered in months. And that’s just kind of gross.”

Instead, the pro advised to try out more natural methods, with ingredients already sitting in your kitchen.

“Put coffee grounds in a room with the smell. Or, if you don’t know which room it is, then ask a friend over and be like, ‘Hey, does my room smell?’ Or you could do it in every room to be safe.

“You can do it with coffee grounds or white vinegar. You just pour it in a bowl and leave it in the room for a day or so.”
