I’m a pet sitter and it’s turned me off getting most dogs – but I would never own a breed with ‘major behavioral issues’
A PET sitter has revealed that her career has managed to turn her off getting most dogs.
One breed, in particular, attracted her ire because it had "major behavioral issues."
In her career, she has learned never to be taken in by looks alone.
Some breeds with a cuddly appearance are in fact little monsters.
Redditor @throwawayRA_yikes shared her views on a pet-sitting forum on Reddit.
She asked fellow dog sitters which dog breeds they would never own.
There was quite a lot of consensus in the comments section.
She was no longer fooled by the goofball antics of one popular breed.
"I surprised myself when I came to the realization I’d never own a labrador," she said.
"All the ones I’ve watched have been so hyper, jumpy, vocal, and poorly behaved," she added.
These guys are high-energy, clumsy, and can cause you inadvertent harm, but in a good-natured way.
"They jump up, hitting me in the face with their nose," she wrote.
There was only so much of these mutts she could take and was not afraid to admit it.
"I'm glad to watch one for a bit but I’m always glad to give it back."
She had similar feelings toward German Shepherds too.
But at least she had honed her list of breeds she would like to own.
"I never thought I would want to own an Australian Shepard but I totally would own one," she said.
Commenters were quick to add to her list of difficult customers.
"No doodles for me. Maybe it’s just the doodle owners that I know, but the majority of them have a major behavioral issue," said one Redditor.
"They have separation anxiety, major stubbornness, and extremely high energy. Poodles in general are a huge no," they added.
A second person had an extreme reaction. They said they had been turned off all breeds.
"Working in pet care has turned me off owning a dog. It’s like having a kid. Daycare fees, vet bills, general maintenance/care is majorly expensive, plus your life revolves around taking your dog out," they said.
It was a similar sentiment from another dog worker.

"My endearing nickname for young Golden Retrievers and labradors is Happy A-Holes until they are about four years old," chimed in another pet-sitter.
