Woman dies after fire at block of flats with probe launched into mystery blaze

A WOMAN has tragically died after a fire broke out at a block of flats.

Intense flames swallowed the property in Pimlico, Westminster, on Sunday night as 30 firefighters battled to extinguish the blaze.

It is understood the 81-year-old victim was discovered by emergency services following harrowing 999 calls.

Chilling photos from the scene show thick black soot marks on the outside of the building on Page Street.

Other windows - seemingly in the flat that went up in flames - are covered with blue tarpaulin.

Cops are now probing the fire to establish a cause.

Met Police said: "Officers responded with London Ambulance Service paramedics and the London Fire Brigade.

"One woman was found deceased.

"Police are working to confirm her identity and inform next of kin.

"The cause of the fire is currently unknown and will be investigated with the London Fire Brigade."

The woman who sadly died has not yet been formally identified.
