2 dead babies found in glass jars were boys born in 2023 and 2022, Hong Kong court hears

The court on Monday did not reveal the ages of the babies.

The Post learned that the boys were born on separate occasions, but the jars in which their bodies were found were placed in the Tuen Mun flat.

Standing in tandem behind the dock, the two defendants did not interact with each other during the brief hearing.

Prosecution did not ask the pair to enter a plea at this stage, saying a further investigation would be conducted over the next 12 weeks to match the deceased babies’ DNA with the defendants and gather medical reports to find out the real cause of the their deaths.

They have not applied for bail through the duty lawyer but will reappear before Magistrate Kenneth Chan Ping-chau next Tuesday to review their bail status.

Police earlier said they believed the pair were the infants’ parents, but prosecution in court said further examination was required to determine their relationship.

Magistrate Chan adjourned the next hearing to June 3.
