Aston Villa avoid PSR trouble
Aston Villa have avoided a potential points deduction next season after raking in £50million by selling Douglas Luiz to Juventus.
Luiz completed his move after passing a medical at Juve as the protracted deal was thrashed out by Villa’s president of football operations Monchi and director of football Damian Vidagany after weeks of tough negotiations.
It means the Villans are compliant with t he financial rules after getting the deal through before yesterday's Premier League deadline passed for the accounting year.
Juventus duo Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior will move to Villa Park in a separate deal worth £22million later this week.
Aston Villa confirm Barkley
Aston Villa officially announced the signing of Ross Barkley from Luton Town.
Villa agreed to a £5million deal with the Hatters to make the deal happen.
The Sun revealed last month that Unai Emery's side were in talks with the midfielder.
Manchester United were also said to be monitoring the ex-England international, who won 33 caps from 2013 until 2019.
How Man Utd got Ashworth
Newcastle slashed their demands for £20million in compensation from Manchester United for sporting director Dan Ashworth to avoid being hit with a points deduction.
SunSport understand the Magpies accepted an offer of significantly less than £10m from their rivals in 11th-hour talks before Sunday’s PSR deadline.
The Toon demanded £20m from the Red Devils to secure the release of Ashworth this summer and were insisting he would be held to the final 12 months of his contract.
But in a massive U-turn, the Tyneside giants reopened talks over the weekend and reached a deal worth less than half of their original asking price due to concerns about being charged by the Premier League for a PSR breach.
Newcastle already raised almost £70m last week through the sales of Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson to Brighton and Nottingham Forest respectively, with their desperate need to receive compensation for Ashworth showing the true extent of their PSR problems.
The case seemed set to go to arbitration after Newcastle rejected an offer of £3m from United but an unexpected compromise deal was reached yesterday which will allow Ashworth to start work at Old Trafford immediately.
