Man Utd transfer news LIVE: Rasmus Hojlund OUT for weeks, Jim Ratcliffe plots huge summer clearout, Ashworth latest

  • Rasmus Hojlund injured

Manchester United have been slapped with another major injury blow.

United found out Luke Shaw could miss the rest of the season due to a recurring leg injury.

Now SunSport understand the in-form Rasmus Hojlund has also been injured.

Hojlund looks set to be out for two to three weeks with a muscle injury.

  • On the plane

Gary Lineker has urged England manager Gareth Southgate to pick Manchester United's Kobbie Mainoo, Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite, and Chelsea's Cole Palmer for Euro 2024.

I know Cole Palmer's already been in the England squad and played, so it doesn't quite count, but I think he's got a real chance of making the squad.

I think maybe Branthwaite from Everton, I think he's got a chance.

It's just an area of the team that Gareth might get to give someone a chance.

    I mean, he's [Mainoo] so young, I think he's just 18.

So to do what he's doing is quite remarkable at a club like Manchester United. So I think he might sneak in.

  • Mason Greenwood Exclusive

Mason Greenwood would snub a move to Barcelona if the door was reopened to him at Manchester United.

Greenwood, who had charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control dropped, believes he has a “debt” to repay United fans and the manager Erik ten Hag.

Mason respected the decision Manchester United made to send him to Spain, but he always wanted to return to the team after the police investigation involving him came to an end.

He believes he has a debt to repay the fans and the manager and would love a second chance.

To him, Manchester United is the biggest and best club in the world and if a chance emerged for him to go back he would.

Barcelona are among a number of clubs interested in signing him.

But if United threw him a lifeline to resurrect his career at Old Trafford, he’d be on the quickest flight home.

  • Lawrenson on Ratcliffe

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson insists the Glazers selling a stake in Manchester United was the “deal of the century”.

    Lawrenson told Paddy Power:

Sir Jim Ratcliffe buying 27% per cent of Manchester United just underlines the fact that the Glazers have done one of the best football deals ever.

They looked at Manchester United and thought, ‘We’ll get this club and get all the money to pay for it and skimp off everything they can get'. It’s one of the best football deals.

They live in America, occasionally come over and watch a game and they’re not asked. They’re making fortunes and to be fair, they’ve spent a lot of money!

They’ve not spent it wisely, but they have spent it. And that’s not the Glazers, they just sign the cheque but it’s not their fault because they know very little about it.

I really do laugh when I hear Manchester United supporters going on about it. It was the deal of the century.

  • Academy ace trains with Man Utd

Manchester United academy prospect Harry Amass trained with the senior team ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash against Fulham.

Amass linked up with Erik ten Hag's team following Luke Shaw's heartbreaking injury that could rule him out for the rest of the season as well as Euro 2024.

The 16-year-old ace also plays at left-back and Ten Hag called him up as he is now out of options in that position with Tyrell Malacia also out with a knee injury.

The England Under-17 international was snapped up by the Red Devils from Watford last summer when Chelsea also kept tabs.

  • Ratcliffe's Ashworth warning

Manchester United minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe insists Newcastle would be "absurd" if they tried to hold Dan Ashworth to his 18-month gardening leave before letting him move to Old Trafford.

Talking about £20m seems a bit silly, personally. I won’t get dragged into that. What I do think is completely absurd is suggesting a man who is really good at his job sits in his garden for one-and-a-half years.

We had a very grown up conversation with [Manchester] City about Omar Berrada, when we approached him to become our chief executive. We sorted it out very amicably. They could see why he wanted to take that challenge.

You look at Pep [Guardiola]. When he’s done with one of his footballers he doesn’t want them to sit in the garden for one-and-a-half years. He doesn’t do that. That’s not the way the UK works or the law works.

Dan Ashworth is clearly one of top sporting directors in the world. I have no doubt he is a very capable person. He is interested in Manchester United because it’s the biggest challenge at the biggest club in the world.

  • Luke Shaw injury update

Manchester United star Luke Shaw could miss the rest of the season after suffering another injury setback and could be ruled out of Euro 2024.

Shaw has been forced off in each of United's last two Premier League fixtures against Aston Villa and Luton Town.

Despite his withdrawal against Villa, manager Erik ten Hag started the full-back again at Kenilworth Road on Sunday.

However, The Mail now report that the England international suffered a recurrence of a leg injury during the clash with the Hatters.

A statement from the Red Devils read: “Luke Shaw has sustained a muscle injury and will be out for an extended period.

“Further assessment is still needed to determine the severity but we expect him to be absent for a few months.”

  • Sir Jim Ratcliffe clearout

Manchester United minority shareholder Jim Ratcliffe is plotting a huge summer clearout.

According to ESPN, United will make 12 players available for transfer.

Anthony Martial will not be offered a new deal and will be allowed to leave on a free whereas Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Casemiro are among those who could be sold.

United will also consider bids for the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Scott McTominay, Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen.

Meanwhile, Donny van de Beek, Jadon Sancho, Facundo Pellistri and Brandon Williams are currently out on loan and all four will be allowed to leave at the end of the season.

  • Pedro Neto price

Wolves star and Manchester United transfer target Pedro Neto is valued at a staggering £80million.

United are among the Premier League clubs keeping tabs on Neto ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to The Athletic, however, it is “no secret” that Arsenal are also expected to move for the winger.

However, the Red Devils are also keen on the Portugal international.

  • Silva cautious of Hojlund

Fulham manager Marco Silva has admitted that he is keen to stop Rasmus Hojlund when facing Manchester United.

He said: "You can see the talent and the quality.

"Since he arrived you can see that he's a young striker and young players need time to adapt and understand the ideas.

"When they start to score they become more confident and I can see this in Hojlund.

"He is a really strong player when he attacks in behind and it's clear for me that he has the capacity to have a very good run while he is at Manchester United.

"Let's hope we can block and defend him well because he's a good player."

  • Mainoo backed for Euro 2024

Kobbie Mainoo has been backed to earn a spot in Gareth Southgate's England squad for Euro 2024.

He told Betfair: "I saw some of the pundits in the UK were calling for Mainoo to be in consideration for the England squad.

"My opinion has not changed; we shouldn't overhype young players that are playing well for their club, but at the same time, if he continues his form, then it won't be a bad idea to include him in the 23-man squad.

"If Gareth Southgate has other ideas and he's not pressured by public opinion despite seeing the quality in Mainoo, maybe he will take him for the experience, but in his mind it's too early to include him in the team.

"It might be beneficial just to soak in all the experience, to be around other players that have been there for a long time. That could be a way to go.

"If not, and if the manager includes him in the squad, then Mainoo would have earned his place based on his current form. But again, be careful. We've witnessed a lot of great talents in the past that have done well and then they've gone downhill."

  • United to fail in top four race?

Mark Lawrenson believes that Manchester United have “no chance” of making the top four.

Mark Lawrenson was speaking to Paddy Power: “Manchester United have no chance of finishing in the top four.

“I just don’t trust them. They’re more than capable of having a bad performance and not winning.

“They’re on a good run of form but you look at Manchester United and it’s really touch and go whether they make a European spot because I don’t trust them.

“The top managers stand on the touchline before the game and look at their team and go ‘yeah, I trust us to deal with any problem on the pitch’ and I don’t have that with United.”

  • Chelsea interested in United target

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing long-term Manchester United Frenkie de Jong.

The Red Devils have been long-term admirers of the midfielder having failed to sign him from Barcelona in 2022.

Sport have now claimed that Chelsea will be willing to offer £85million to sign the Dutchman this summer.

  • Adrien Rabiot transfer war

Juventus ace Adrien Rabiot is attracting interest from a host of Premier League clubs, including Manchester United.

According to HITC, United are eyeing Rabiot ahead of the summer transfer window as his contract runs out in June.

However, Arsenal, Newcastle, Tottenham as well as Liverpool “are all keen on securing his services”.

Every Prem club, except for the Red Devils, have been in “contact” with the 28-year-old’s representatives “in recent months” and are eager to remain updated regarding his situation.

Bayern Munich are also in the running for the midfielder but Juve want to keep hold of the France international and are “working hard to try to convince” him to put pen to paper a new deal.

  • Two Man Utd legends in running for Ireland job

Ireland’s three-month search for Stephen Kenny’s replacement as national team manager is ongoing.

However, that search could well be coming to an end shortly, with the latest odds from bookmakers Coral showing ‘strong support’ for former defender and Manchester United legend John O’Shea.

O’Shea might be the new frontrunner to take the reins of the Irish but he isn’t the only Old Trafford hero well in contention.

Roy Keane continues to reaffirm his desire to be back involved in management – though won’t jump in at any opportunity – and he’s also towards the top of the betting.

  • Ratcliffe aims to build new stadium

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has admitted that he is keen to build a new ground and move Manchester United out of the “tired” Old Trafford.

The British billionaire believes that a new stadium could “serve the north of England”.

Ratcliffe, 71, has insisted that Old Trafford has become “tired” and in need of “refurbishment”.

However his “preference” is to build a new stadium for the Red Devils.

He said: “It’s about time someone built a national stadium in the north of England. If it can be achieved, it would clearly be my preference.

“I would be very excited for the north of England.”

  • Next up for United

Manchester United are back in action on Saturday as they face Fulham at Old Trafford.

  • Ratcliffe on Ten Hag's future

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has insisted that he will not comment on speculation surrounding Erik ten Hag's future as Manchester United manager.

He said: “I’m not going to comment on the job he’s done because that would be inappropriate.

“What is relevant to that question is that, if you look at the 11 years that have gone since David Gill and Sir Alex stepped down, there has been a whole series of coaches.

“Some of them were very good but none of them has been successful or survived for very long.

“You can't blame all the coaches. The only conclusion is that the environment in which they were working didn't work.

“Erik's been in that environment and what we have to do is make sure that environment, the organisation, the people in the structure, are right.

“We have to do that bit, so I'm not really focused on the coach but on getting that bit right. It's not for me to judge that.

“But we’ve made some quite difficult decisions in our time in business. We’ll just be logical about it, assess the facts and make a fair judgement.

“We're not a brutal organisation really. But sometimes you do have to make decisions, that may not be popular.”

  • Sancho's rallying cry

Jadon Sancho is "full of joy" but he needs to improve, warned Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic.

Terzic told TNT Sports: "With Jadon it is always good to have him around, inside the team, inside the group and also inside the squad on a matchday, because Jadon is capable of making special things happen.

"He didn't have his best performance today, like us all, and he knows that he is able to play better football than today.

"This is what we are going to work on, to get him back on this level every three days when needed. But he is full of joy and we are really happy and pleased that he is around."

  • United give Shaw injury update

A statement from the Red Devils read: “Luke Shaw has sustained a muscle injury and will be out for an extended period.
