  • Sancho on the bench

Jadon Sancho is on the bench for Borussia Dortmund tonight.

The on loan Manchester United winger returned to his old club in January.

He is amongst the substitutes for tonight's home match with Freiburg.

Dortmund currently lead 2-0 thanks to a brace from Donyell Malen.

  • Ole warns Rashford

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told Marcus Rashford that his Belfast bender must act as a "wake-up call".

The Manchester United forward was fined for calling in sick after visiting a Belfast night club last month.

Former United boss Solskjaer explained: "Obviously I managed Marcus for three years and I know him. It's not my job to go out and discuss his performances, but last season he was fantastic and it's about consistency in football.

"Marcus and many others haven't hit the heights this season. I'm sure he had a wake-up call last week and hopefully that will spur him on.

"Is it the manager's job to get the best out of him, or is it mostly himself or any player's responsibility to get the best out of yourself? I think that's more it."

  • Academy arrival

Manchester United are reportedly set to hire Ipswich's head of recruitment Sam Williams.

According to the Express, Williams will take up an important role with the United academy.

He previously worked for the Red Devils as an analyst and scout before leaving in 2022 to join former assistant Kieran McKenna at Portman Road.

Williams is now set to return as the club's lead academy scout for players aged between 17 and 21.

  • Mainoo position change

Gareth Southgate has hinted at a shock position change for Kobbie Mainoo.

The Manchester United youngster has been tipped for an England call-up after starring for the Red Devils this season.

Discussing his performances, Southgate said: "He’s doing brilliantly. I’m not certain he’s necessarily going to be a defensive midfielder, as such.

"He’s quite a progressive player but he’s had a fabulous start to his career and it will be good to monitor him as we go forward."

  • Ole ready for management return

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that he is ready to return to football manager following his sacking from Manchester United in 2021.

He said: "I’ve got at least one club job in me. It has to be an interesting one, somewhere, an adventure, somewhere, I can be myself.

"No disrespect, but after you’ve managed Manchester United for three years, it’s like, where do you go?

"I want to feel that pressure again. You know, when you see the games, you miss it."

  • United to fail in top four race?

Mark Lawrenson believes that Manchester United have “no chance” of making the top four.

Mark Lawrenson was speaking to Paddy Power: “Manchester United have no chance of finishing in the top four.

“I just don’t trust them. They’re more than capable of having a bad performance and not winning.

“They’re on a good run of form but you look at Manchester United and it’s really touch and go whether they make a European spot because I don’t trust them.

“The top managers stand on the touchline before the game and look at their team and go ‘yeah, I trust us to deal with any problem on the pitch’ and I don’t have that with United.”

  • Chelsea interested in United target

  • Emery 'optimistic' ahead of United

Unai Emery believes that his Aston Villa side is good enough to get a result against Manchester United this weekend.

He said: "I believe in our way and how we are facing each match in the Premier League.

"Even being consistent, sometimes we are not getting our good performances but, overall, we are doing it.

    "On Sunday, I’m optimistic.

"I know the preparation from minute one to minute 90 and how we have to play the match being very focused, being respectful of them and playing an intelligent match."

  • Emery picks out United threats

Unai Emery has also analysed three Manchester United players as threats to his team.

He said: "My concern and analysis of them is trying to understand their gameplan and to understand their qualities, collectively and individually.

“We have to try to stop them, starting with the goalkeeper because his build-up is fantastic. Their centre-backs like to play, building up and controlling ball possession, trying to get good combinations on the pitch.

“Luke Shaw is very dangerous and Diogo Dalot is in a good moment. Casemiro is a very important player for them; they have very good wingers and strikers and that is my concern.

“The most important thing for me, individually and collectively, as a coach is to prepare trying to stop them.”

  • Emery to play 'different game'

Unai Emery has insisted that he has a different plan to face Manchester United after losing the reverse fixture.

He said: “I forgot it because each match has different circumstances.

"We played and we lost; we analysed deeply with the players and tried to improve after it.

“On Sunday we’re going to play a different match against Manchester United. They are recovering some very important players for them, one of them is Casemiro.

“They are going to feel stronger and concerned about the important game in this moment because we are in front of them. They are contenders more than us to be in the top four or five positions.

“The reality is we are being consistent, and even losing [on Sunday] we will be in front of them.”

  • Merson makes U-turn for United prediction

Paul Merson has admitted he has changed his mind when predicting the outcome between Manchester United and Aston Villa.

He told Sportskeeda: "Two weeks ago, I'd have said Aston Villa straight away as they were on a run of 15 successive wins at home.

"Their last two home games at Villa Park barring the Sheffield United one have been worrying, to say the least.

"Manchester United, on the other hand, have so much pace on the counter-attack and are feeling good again, so I can't see Villa dealing with their threat.

"I usually never fancy Manchester United away from home, but I think Villa have been sussed out at home in recent weeks, so I'm going for a 2-2 draw. However, if I had to pick a winner, I would go for Manchester United."

  • Ten Hag on Villa

Erik ten Hag has insisted that the match against Aston Villa should be considered as important as a final.

He said: "I have said to the team from the start of January that every game is now a final.

"That was also our approach to West Ham United – we were one point behind them so this is a final.

"So let's take this challenge. We have to see this as a final.

"That will be every game from now on, for us. We are already in that mood."

  • Update on Martinez

Erik ten Hag has given an update on Lisandro Martinez and hopes the defender will be back before the end of the season.

The manager said: "You see his contribution to the team when he is playing so he brings, apart from his technical skills, also a mentality in the team.

“It is a big setback for Licha. He is very disappointed, but he is a fighter and he will back, he will be back stronger.

"We think he will still be back by the end of the season.”

  • Southgate on Mainoo

England manager Gareth Southgate has revealed that he’s been monitoring Man Utd rising star Kobbie Mainoo this season.

He said: "He’s doing brilliantly for a young player and had an excellent start for United.

"I’m not certain he’s necessarily going to be a defensive midfielder, as such.

    "He’s quite a progressive player.

"But he’s had a fabulous start to his career and it will be good to monitor him as we go forward.”

  • Prem bosses question handball law

Premier League managers have told league chiefs they have “absolutely no idea” what the handball law is supposed to be.

Now top-flight leaders are asking coaches and players to help them determine where referees should draw a line on handball and other incidents.

League leaders also concede that VAR delays are making the match-going experience “poor” for fans.

Despite that, they still insist that Prem referees are “as good if not better than they have ever been”.

  • 'Always United' for young star

Willy Kambwala has revealed that he only ever wanted to play for Manchester United.

He told MUFC: "The dream was about Man United. And that's it. No other club.

"Even England, I wasn't thinking about England. I was just thinking about Man United. I don't know why but, since as far back as I can remember, it was just Man United.

"I couldn't watch [that much] football but it was Man United, Man United all the time.

"That's the dream I had. So, to be here, was just so special to me because it was the thing I wanted."

  • United boost in De Jong chase

Manchester United have reportedly received a boost in their pursuit of long-time transfer target Frenkie de Jong.

Reports are emerging that he could be open to a Man Utd switch in the summer, despite his contract running until 2026.

Journalist Lluis Canut has claimed the lack of trophies Barcelona have won since De Jong arrived at the Nou Camp - one LaLiga title, one Copa del Rey and one Spanish Super Cup - has left the midfielder frustrated.

Speaking to Esport3, Canut said: "De Jong has not given the green light, but he is no longer closing the door on leaving Barca as he did two seasons ago, when he had interest, especially from Manchester United, in going to play with the coach who had him at Ajax - Ten Hag.

"De Jong would be willing to leave Barca at the end of this season."
