AFTER showing off her home transformation, one council house dweller was met with significant backlash.
She showed her followers before and after pictures of her DIY renovation project.
In her viral video, TikTok user Evie Scholes (@evie.scholes) offered comparison shots of each room of her house.
She explained that she had to "trust the process" as she carried out the work.
First, she showed her audience a virtual tour of the home as it was the day she moved in.
Walking through the space, she filmed the peeling and stained walls in the kitchen and the living room.

The council also boarded up the fireplace in the home before offering it to Evie.
She filmed the back garden, which had overgrown grass that was a few feet tall.
The stairs also appeared to have been neglected, with scuff marks on most of the steps.
Upstairs, the floor in the hallway looked to be rotting with a layer of carboard placed over it.
"How my council gave me the house for me to turn it into a home," the TikToker captioned the clip.
Evie included pictures of what her council house looks like after she finished her renovation work.
Her projects included laying down a grey carpet on the stairs and placing artwork on the walls of her hallway.
She also added window blinds, a diffuser, and vases with pampas to the stairs.
At the bottom of the stairs, she hung a decorative hook for her house keys.
Evie also showed off her completed living room, which included a fluffy grey rug, a gold mirror over the fireplace, and decorative lighting.
Her shelves featured framed artwork and various plants and the glass doors had long grey curtains.
Rules on transforming your council house
According to Gov, the kind of improvements you can make to your council property depends on the type of tenancy you have.
Introductory tenants are usually limited to minor improvements like redecorating inside.
If you’re a secure tenant, you have the right to carry out improvements to your property. These include:
- installing a new bathroom or kitchen
- building an extension
- putting up a garden shed or greenhouse
- installing a new gas fire or fireplace
- cavity wall insulation
- redecorating the outside of a house
- fitting an aerial or satellite dish
You might need your council’s written permission for work you do. Contact your council if you’re not sure.
For her kitchen transformation, she switched out the silver handles for black matte ones.
She also included a quick glimpse of her dining area, which she decorated with more hanging plants.
However, TikTok users were quick to criticise the TikToker's situation in the comments section.
"I still don’t get it, why the council should give houses to some people instead of selling those houses and investing to repair the roads and areas that need improvement?" asked one viewer.
"Amount of people fighting over council houses is ridiculous, everyone should start getting a job instead of being lazy and buy their own like normal people do," said another follower.

"And how did you expect it too look? Fully decorated and furnished?" wrote a third person.
"What do you expect? Free carpets and decorated to the way you like? Plus £50,000 and a big TV in every room," commented another TikTok user.
