Department for Environment staff sparked outrage by pushing for an extra day off.
Union bosses made the call on behalf of members wanting a better work-life balance, saying the move could improve productivity.
Mark Serwotka, of the Public and Commercial Services union, said: “If Defra wants to seriously address employee burnout, stress and poor wellbeing they will listen to our members and implement this pilot.”
PM Rishi Sunak slapped down their demands last night, with his spokesman insisting there were no plans to grant the request.
Downing Street said: “We’re focused on making the productive best use of our time throughout all of the working week.”
