TV host Paddy McGuinness is being lined up to front his own Radio 2 show after impressing as a stand-in.
The ex-Take Me Out and Top Gear host, 50, has successfully covered Rylan Clark’s Saturday afternoon show — leading to talks with station boss Helen Thomas about a long-term role.
A source said: “Paddy is a natural fit for Helen’s vision of Radio 2, and is an effortless broadcaster.
“He’s proven a hit with listeners since filling in for Rylan, and was brought in for talks about the future.
“Like fellow Bolton-born host Vernon Kay, Paddy’s Northern tones — and cheesy dad jokes — work well on air, and he has come up with some brilliant, innovative ideas for formats of his own.”
It is not yet known if Paddy will replace a current DJ, or will fit in around the current programming.

Comedian Paddy held the fort on Vernon’s mid-morning show in November while the host ran an ultra marathon for Children In Need.
Announcing that Paddy would step in for Rylan, who was away filming, Helen Thomas said: “Paddy did a great job presenting Ten To The Top for Vernon.
“He was warmly welcomed by listeners so it’s wonderful to welcome him back to Radio 2 to sit in for Rylan for four weeks.”
It comes amid a series of changes at the station — and follows the death of much-loved DJ Steve Wright last month.
