In the new format Europa League Man Utd will play four home games and four away.

It is pivotal that Erik ten Hag’s side make Old Trafford a fortress in the competition.

Around 15 points are expected to be needed to secure a spot in the top eight.

  • United need to find clinical edge

Despite declaring that all was well once again at Old Trafford following wins against Southampton and Barnsley, the Red Devils struggled to find the net on the weekend.

Erik ten Hag’s side created plenty of chances against Crystal Palace but could not score.

The Dutch manager needs to find a  more clinical edge in front of goal.

  • Welcome to Man Utd vs FC Twente

Erik ten Hag’s side begin their 2024/25 Europa League campaign against Eredivisie side FC Twente at Old Trafford this evening.

Man Utd are without Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Victor Lindelof with the latter two back in training and working their way back to first-team action.

The manager may opt to rotate his squad with Harry Maguire coming back into the starting line-up, while Manuel Ugarte or Casemiro are expected to slot in also.

Marcus Rashford is expected to start, while Alejandro Garnacho, Amad Diallo and Antony will be battling to start on the flanks also.

Joshua Zirkzee is likely to continue up top while ten Hag eases Rasmus Hojlund back into the team after an injury lay-off.

FC Twente will be without Michal Sadilek and Younes Taha, the former having suffered a freak bicycle accident before the Euros while Taha broke his leg against PEC Zwolle just over a week ago.

Oosting is unlikely to make too many changes, if any, to his starting lineup, with summer signing Bart van Rooij set to continue on the right side of a back four next to Mees Hilgers, Max Bruns and Anass Salah-Eddine.

Sem Steijn has been a standout performer for Twente this season, scoring seven goals in eight games and the 22-year-old is expected to operate in the number 10 role behind former Rangers striker Sam Lammers.
