I’m an artist & there’s a popular Facebook mum garden trend I can’t stand – whoever started it needs to go to jail

FROM a lick of paint to garden trellis, there are a whole host of creative ways people try and spruce up their tired-looking garden fences.

But according to one artist, there's a 'tacky' popular Facebook mum garden trend that she finds totally cringe-worthy - and it involves a shower curtain.

In a clip shared to TikTok (@amii.illustrates), the woman named Amii explains how she "hates" the trend that sees people attaching a 3D shower curtain to their fences in a bid to spruce it up in an instant.

Available from the likes of eBay or Temu, they feature various picturesque scenes from peaceful beach waves to floral window displays and even a relaxing waterfall scene.

Addressing her social media followers, she urges: "Everyone needs to stop the Facebook mums. I think it looks SO tacky. I hate it so much."

She then goes on to share a few examples and, clearly unimpressed, says: "You can't tell me that looks better!"

Amongst one of the examples Amii deems to be offensive is a homeowner who has attached shower curtain to her fence which features an illustration of two fake benches.

To try and bring the illustration to life, she's then added a real bench next to it.

Amii adds that what she finds particularly toe-curling about the whole concept is that people are convinced they actually look good.

Sharing another issue she has with the current trend, the illustrator explains that when the shower curtains get wet, they'll likely go a slimy texture.

Amii also points out how quickly they'll get filthy, adding that they'll get saggy in no time.

Despite admitting that she can see what the homeowners are trying to achieve, she just can't see past the fact that the fences would look better with anything but a shower curtain attached to them.

Amii captioned the post: "Whoever started this trend needs jail time."

The post has since gone viral, racking up a whopping 574k views and several comments - with very mixed opinions.

"It’s giving…Scottish Wonka Experience," wrote one.

A second penned: "I'm in a whole group on Facebook about this it's HYSTERICAL. I saw someone put one with a horse on it so her garden would look like a stable."

"Whyyyy?! Just plant real plants," a third commented.

Meanwhile, a fourth noted: "You know that's going to smell mouldy."

Another chimed in: "I’ve seen someone cover the back of neighbours shed with a horse in stable themed one and hung hay bags from each side instead of hanging baskets."

How To Make Your Small Garden Look Bigger

Garden design expert Fiona Jenkins from MyJobQuote.co.uk has created a guide on how to make your small garden look larger.

Add shelves - for additional storage and place to hold more plants.

Use foldaway furniture - to take up less space when not in use.

Add privacy - with fencing, trellis, brick walls or hedging.

Add a water feature - to make your garden seem like a natural retreat.

Go bright - when choosing plants, opt for bold colours to make the space pop.

Use large planters - to get more plants in less space.

Plant vertically - add plants upwards to make your garden seem fuller, and therefore, bigger.

Use blue flowers at the edges - blue flowers and plants recede into the distance and make the garden appear bigger.

Grow tall plants - it's better to think big when it comes to a small garden.

Keep clutter a minimum - as it can give the illusion of less space than there actually is.

And a further added: "It’s so much worse than I imagined."

Elsewhere, other social media users defended the choice and pointed out that it should be each to their own when it comes to personal taste.

"This might be the first time I've ever FELT old. I'm millennial and I think some of these actually look so cute," one person admitted.

Another agreed: "Been going on for years now and some of them actually do look fab once plants grow around them."
