Clarke is an OSMO IKON Brand Ambassador and owner of Spectrum Hair Company in St Helens, England.

Speaking to The U.S. Sun, she shared the secret to longer locks.

HOME REMEDIES

Clarke said there are several ways to promote hair growth without a trip to the salon.

“Don’t underestimate the benefits of a firm but relaxing head massage to trigger circulation to kick start new hair growth,” she said.

“Quite often it’s not what you rub in, rather than the healing relaxing touch itself that’s doing the trick.”

She revealed a derma roller used gently on the scalp can have a similar effect as it stimulates hair follicles and increases blood flow.

A dermatologist or trichologist can advise on the best microneedling method for specific needs.

Clarke said kitchen ingredients can be used alongside head massages for healthier hair.

“I’ve heard of the rice water rinse method,” she said.

“Rice is rich in amino acids and vitamins and can strengthen hair and promote growth.

I had long, thick, 4C curls before going bald during chemo – my careful haircare routine helped grow it back by 80%

“Rosemary oil is also a great natural method to help bring more nutrients to the hair follicles promoting growth and improving blood circulation to the scalp as well as making hair fuller and stronger.”

WASH DAY HABITS

A good scalp environment is necessary for nurturing tresses and encouraging growth.

Clarke said it’s best to avoid the use of products that contain harsh chemicals such as parabens.

“A healthy scalp is crucial for hair growth as issues like dandruff or scalp infections can impede hair growth,” she said.

“Washing hair too often can strip hair of natural oils, while not washing enough can lead to buildup and scalp issues.”

She uses products containing soybean oil and rice protein to boost and strengthen the locks of her clients who have fine hair.

Simple things like rough brushing, especially when hair is wet, and using the wrong type of brush can cause breakage.

A volumizing shampoo and conditioner can also help to create the illusion of healthier, thicker hair.

“Volumizing products really do give your hair volume without static and are a brilliant alternative to heavy styling products and backcombing,” she said.

“Once thoroughly rinsed, towel dry hair and apply a spritz of root boost spray to the roots, tip hair upside down and pat it dry.

“Then, using a large, barrelled bristle brush and a professional hairdryer.

"Dry your hair in 2.5-inch sections, gently teasing the hair upwards from the root to encourage volume.”

HELPING HANDS

Being rough when brushing hair, especially when it’s wet, and using the wrong type of brush can cause breakage.

When it comes to styling, Clarke said tight ponytails, braids, or buns, should be avoided as they can hinder hair growth while causing traction alopecia.

She said speaking to specialists can be helpful to get optimal results from a haircare routine.

“You really shouldn’t avoid going to see your hairdresser, as regular trims help remove split ends which then helps with creating stronger hair growth, too,” she said.

“You can also book a visit to your doctor to have your iron levels checked as these may affect your hair growth.

“With my own clients, I’ll also talk to them about measuring their stress levels and being aware of hormonal changes such as their periods, menopause, and pregnancy.

“If hair loss or growth is an issue, then a chat with a doctor or trichologist is definitely the right route to take.”
