A briefing was held at the MFA of Turkmenistan on cooperation with the UN in the field of human rights

A briefing was held in Ashgabat on the work of Turkmenistan in the field of human rights protection and respect for international humanitarian law in cooperation with the UN.

The event, which took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on February 17, was attended by representatives of the Interdepartmental Commission to ensure the implementation of Turkmenistan's international obligations in the field of human rights and international humanitarian law, heads of ministries and departments, public organizations, heads and representatives of specialized UN agencies.

The opening of the briefing was addressed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Mahri Bashimova, the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan, Dmitry Shlapachenko, the regional representative of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Central Asia, Matilda Bogner, and the Director of the Department for Ensuring the work of the Human Rights Council and Treaty Mechanisms, Mahamane Sisse-Guro, who arrived in Ashgabat for the first time on a working visit.

During the briefing, information was presented on the activities of Turkmenistan in the field of human rights protection, maintaining gender equality, taking into account the recommendations of international partners within the framework of the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review.

The briefing participants got acquainted with the results of the activities of the Interdepartmental Commission to ensure the implementation of Turkmenistan's international obligations in the field of human rights and international humanitarian law within the framework of joint work with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

An interested exchange of views took place regarding further cooperation between Turkmenistan and international organizations on this topic, reported at the press release of MFA.
