An inquest opening at Gloucestershire Coroner’s Court today sadly revealed Thomas' cause of death.

The financier died from a “traumatic head wound” and was found with a gun near to his body.

It's understood he was discovered in an outbuilding at his parents' Cotswolds home.

In tragic events that have left the Royal Family in shock, Thomas locked himself in the building while his father went to walk the dog.s

Senior coroner Katy Skerrett on Friday said: "Mr Kingston was visiting his parents' home in the Cotswolds.

"On February 25 2024 he ate lunch with his parents. His father went out to walk the dogs.

"On his return Mr Kingston was not in the house and after approximately 30 minutes his mother went to look for him.

"His father forced entry on a locked out building when no reply could be gained.

"He found Mr Kingston deceased with a catastrophic head injury. A gun was present at the scene. Emergency services were called. Police are satisfied the death is not suspicious."

Coroners carried out Thomas' post mortem on Wednesday.

The Firm are said to still be coming to terms with the sudden death with tributes pouring in from royals including King Charles and Queen Camilla.

Thomas became part of the Royal Family when he wed Lady Gabriella in 2019.

Prior to marrying into the monarchy, Thomas survived a suicide bombing in Baghdad which killed 22.

Thomas' job was to mediate conflicts in Iraq and was said to have had countless brushes with death.

Heartbroken Lady Gabriella said her "exceptional" husband would be remembered as someone "who lit up the lives of all who knew him".

The statement read: "It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Thomas Kingston, our beloved husband, son and brother.

"Tom was an exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him.

"His death has come as a great shock to the whole family and we ask you to respect our privacy as we mourn his passing."

Thomas and his wife were last pictured at London's Celebration of Shakespeare at Grosvenor House Park Lane Hotel on Valentine's Day.

He and Lady Gabriella beamed as they posed for cameras with their arms lovingly wrapped around each other.

The pair both wore blue and black and had smiles from ear-to-ear as they walked on the red carpet.

And pals who saw Thomas and Lady Gabriella last week claimed the couple seemed "happy and chatty".

The close friend told MailOnline: "They seemed happy and positive as ever.

"Ella was particularly chatty."

Another pal said: "It's utterly shocking. None of us saw it coming.

"I cannot understand it."

Who was Thomas Kingston?

Thomas worked in frontier market investment, and was the director of Devonport Capital.

He was once described as "the most eligible man in London" and previously dated Pippa Middleton in 2011 - after she split from cricketer Alex Loudon.

Thomas graduated from the University of Bristol with a bachelor's degree in economic history, according to The Telegraph.

He worked in the Diplomatic Missions Unit of the United Kingdom's Foreign Office, and for almost three years worked in Baghdad as a project officer for the Iraqi Institute of Peace.

His job was to mediate conflicts in Iraq, and he even helped negotiate the release of hostages.

Thomas then moved into finance, working as an equity analyst for global asset management firm Schroders.

He was managing director of Voltan Capital Management until April 2017.

In September 2018, it was announced that Thomas was engaged to Lady Gabriella Windsor.

They married on May 18, 2019 at St. George's Chapel.

Thomas Kingston died on February 25, 2024 aged 45.

Gloucestershire Constabulary said it was not treating Thomas' death as suspicious.

The King and Queen paid tribute to Thomas this week.

Their statement read: "The King and The Queen have been informed of Thomas’s death and join Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and all those who knew him in grieving a much-loved member of the family.

You're Not Alone

EVERY 90 minutes in the UK a life is lost to suicide

It doesn’t discriminate, touching the lives of people in every corner of society – from the homeless and unemployed to builders and doctors, reality stars and footballers.

It’s the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, more deadly than cancer and car crashes.

And men are three times more likely to take their own life than women.

Yet it’s rarely spoken of, a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage unless we all stop and take notice, now.

That is why The Sun launched the You’re Not Alone campaign.

The aim is that by sharing practical advice, raising awareness and breaking down the barriers people face when talking about their mental health, we can all do our bit to help save lives.

Let’s all vow to ask for help when we need it, and listen out for others… You’re Not Alone.
