EFL clash postponed barely two hours before kick-off as heavy rain wreaks havoc on football calendar

PETERBOROUGH'S League One clash against Port Vale has been called off.

The decision, announced by the club on social media barely two hours before kick-off, came following a pitch inspection.

A Posh statement read: "Peterborough United's Sky Bet League One fixture with Port Vale has been postponed following a pitch inspection by match referee Adam Herczeg.

"After persistent unpredicted heavy rain throughout the afternoon and into the evening, the Weston Homes pitch has been deemed unplayable.

"The forecast for the evening does not show any sign of let up in terms of the rain. A new date for the fixture will be announced in due course."
