Cyclists rushed to hospital and entire race stopped after horror crash as commentator fumes ‘we don’t need to see this’
CYCLIST Steven Kruijswijk was rushed to hospital after a huge crash at the Criterium du Dauphine.
A nasty pile-up on a descent in the pouring rain forced Team Visma-Lease a Bike riders Kruijswijk and Dylan van Baarle to abandon the race.
Dutchman Kruijswijk, 36, could be seen being loaded into an ambulance on a stretcher as he was taken to hospital.
Compatriot and team-mate Van Baarle, 32, was sat by the side of the road with his arm in a sling.
A number of other high-profile riders went down in the crash including race leader Remco Evenepoel and Primoz Roglic.
Organisers have since confirmed they have abandoned the stage due to the lack of medical assistance left available to continue the race.
