Everyone is buying barrel-leg jeans – these are the five best pairs we’ve spotted on the high street

JEANS are a timeless wardrobe staple for many, and whilst certain styles will come in and out of fashion, denim is always in vogue.

We have recently seen the resurgence of wide-leg jeans, and the latest style the fashion set is loving is the flattering barrel-leg cut.

Barrel jeans are, what we consider, a hybrid between straight-leg ankle jeans, Mom jeans, and maybe even wide-leg designs.

Some may call barrel jeans tapered jeans, other brands titled them carrot leg, or balloon fit.

Essentially what you are looking for with this style is a high waist, a spacious wide fit around the thighs, which tapers in around the calves, or knee, and finished off with the ankle grazer length.

Just because the style lends itself to a relaxed look, it doesn't mean you are limited as to how you style the jeans, as they look good dressed casually or dressed up.

We love barrel jeans paired with a crisp white t-shirt, and trainers, or Mary-Jane shoes and a blazer, even style with a jazzy top, or cropped top with these jeans and pointed-toe heels.

Finding the perfect jeans can be difficult, not only when it comes to sizing, but also in finding the right denim wash, the right fit, and of course varying lengths.

M&S

M&S has an impressive collection of denim to suit all shoppers' styles, preferred cuts, denim colourways and prices.

M&S has created denim using recycled cotton which is perfect for more eco-conscious shoppers, while the designs also boast elastane for a much-needed stretch when shopping for denim.

M&S have called their barrel jeans the Carrot Leg Ankle Grazer Jeans but they have a very similar style as they boast a high waistline, and slightly loose fit around the thigh and calf before cutting off above the ankle.

Tu

Tu is the clothing brand at Sainsbury's, and it often goes under the radar when it comes to a shopping spree, though it shouldn't as Tu has stylish garments with affordable price tags.

Their barrel jeans are selling out fast, so luckily for shoppers, they've just stocked a new paler wash.

Just don't hang about, if the first pair was anything to go by, these are likely to sell out fast.

Levi's is the first place we think to shop for new denim.

The brand's 501s or red label collections are, arguably, the most popular, but there are various barrel jeans to shop too.

Whistles were one of the go-to fashion retailers to shop barrel jeans when they first arrived on the fashion scene circa 2017, and now the style is back we are heading to Whistles once again.

Unsurprisingly Whistles' barrel jeans are selling out fast with limited washes available to shop, so you will want to secure the goods quickly before they sell out entirely.

We love the asymmetric seam running vertically down the sides of Whistles' Barrel Leg Jeans which helps them look more flattering and make your legs look slimmer despite the balloon-esque cut.

River Island

River Island has expanded their denim collection in recent months - and we couldn't be happier.

River Island has a selection of tapered jeans to shop in different washes, and the cut is perfect, in our opinion.

They boast a fitted high-waisted detail, balloon out and taper in near the ankle, but without being too tight around the lower leg area making it easy to slip in and out of this design.

We're particularly lusting after the dark denim, though this style also comes in black, both in short, regular and long lengths. Still, sizes are selling out fast.
