I save 20% on my heating bill with five free tricks, #4 lets you treat yourself while warming your home
A SUSTAINABILITY expert has revealed how he saves up to 20% on his energy bill.
His five free tricks were simple to execute and one even squeezes in a little treat for yourself.
A spokesperson for a nonprofit page (@sustainabilitymattersva) shared the home heating advice with their TikTok followers.
Hoping to save money on bills and reduce his carbon footprint, the expert set his ideas into motion.
First, he recommended checking to see if your home is airtight from cold air leaks.
"Look for cracks, gaps, or holes around doors and windows and make sure to seal them up," he said.
For those with guest rooms or extra space, he recommended closing the doors and vents to vacant rooms.
"This will divert heat to areas of your home where you actually spend time and not waste energy heating unused rooms," he said.
In the winter, daylight may be sparse but it's also important and opening up blinds to let in the sun can help heat up a room quickly.
While it may be easier to order food on a cold and snowy day, cooking will not only save money but help keep you warm.
"Heat from the stove or oven will get your kitchen nice and toasty," he explained.
Last but not least, while air conditioners should definitely be turned off, ceilings fans may actually come in handy in colder seasons.
As heat rises, warmer air tends to stay around your ceiling and you can use ceiling fans to your advantage.
"Put your ceiling fans in the clockwise setting to circulate warm air all throughout your room," he said.
