LYNX is set to discontinue an iconic deodorant as shoppers are left devastated.

But the brand has hinted that the beloved spray may one day make a "legendary comeback".

Bosses took to Instagram to share the news that Lynx Africa would be soon axed from shelves.

The statement read: "You may have heard that our iconic Lynx Africa scent is getting discontinued.

"We know - it hurts (sorry if we've ruined your go to fragrance) but don't worry, the rest of your faves are still here to keep you smelling fine.

"And who knows? Maybe one day, Lynx Africa will make a legendary comeback.

"We appreciate your understanding during this period of adjustment and apologise for any inconvenience caused."

The statement was accompanied by the caption: "I'm sorry to be the one to break the bad news."

Commenters rushed to mourn the loss of the deodorant, which has a "vanilla and geranium scent" and is a popular stocking filler.

One said: "It's my favourite scent."

Another typed: "That’s Christmas presents ruined. Cheers."

A fortunate third admitted they had stockpiled cans, adding: "I got like 30 cans for Christmas, fingers crossed I’ve got enough til it returns."

However, others were sceptical of the update and suspected a publicity stunt.

One said: "This can’t be true!! It’s their number one selling fragrance in range!! You would be cannibalising the business!!"

Another added: "No chance. Far too much attention made from this fragrance to discontinue."

And a third noted: "Liptons already made this prank."

It comes after the popular ice tea brand gave its customers quite the scare this week as it teased the discontinuation of its peach flavoured drink.

A post read: "You may have heard that our iconic Peach Lipton Ice Tea [flavor] is getting discontinued.

"We know – it hurts (sorry if we've ruined your go-to afternoon chill bev).

"But don't worry, the rest of your faves are still here to keep you refreshed. And who knows?

"Maybe one day, Peach will make a legendary comeback."

But roughly 24 hours later, the curtain was pulled back on an apparent April Fools Day prank, taking place in March.

A second cheeky announcement read: "Oops, is it still March?

"Got my dates mixed up… Thought it was April Fools already! I'd never take away your [favorite flavor], pookies."
