Motorway tunnel used by 150,000 drivers every day to shut this week – check if you’ll be affected

A BUSY motorway tunnel used by thousands of drivers daily will close this week for essential works.

The closures will take place from today until Friday, with diversions in place.

According to National Highways, the closures at Dartford will primarily affect the West Tunnel and parts of the A282 northbound and clockwise carriageways.

However, there will be no closures over the upcoming weekend, offering some relief for commuters.

Diversions will be in place via National Highways and local authority roads to help ease congestion during the closures.

The Dartford Crossing is a vital road link over the River Thames, connecting Dartford in Kent to Thurrock in Essex, and is used by around 150,000 drivers every day.

These closures are part of ongoing maintenance and tunnel works, but drivers are advised to stay updated on any potential changes due to weather conditions.

From today until tomorrow, the A282 Northbound West Tunnel will be closed for tunnel works, with carriageway and slip road closures in place from 9pm to 5:30am.

Additionally, there will be a closure of the A282 Clockwise between Junction 1a and Junction 2 for resurfacing works, from 10pm to 5.30am, with diversions via local authority roads.

The same closures will continue from Thursday, March 6, to Friday, March 7, with the Northbound West Tunnel closed for tunnel works and the Clockwise carriageway closed for resurfacing, again from 9pm to 5.30am and 10pm to 5.30am respectively, with diversions in place.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead to avoid disruptions.
