The American sitcom starring Rob Lowe follows his character's eccentric attempts to cope with grief after his wife's death as Ellis works at a high-tech company.

The actor's real life son joins the bio research lab as Ellis's socially awkward son Jackson, who tries to help his dad cope.

Production for the show previously got shut down during the writers strikes, but Netflix has now announced that the show is back in business.

The second season will have eight episodes and production begins later this month, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The father and son acting duo shared their delight at being invited back for another series, saying: "It's a dream come true for us to jump back into the world of Unstable. Here's to season two and the many hours of family therapy that we will need along the way."

Some pleased fans flocked to social media to comment on the announcement.

One wrote: "This was a fun little show, cool they are making more!"

Another added: "Easy to brush past in the Netflix cloud but UNSTABLE was delightful."

However, others were left hitting out after getting angry that the streamer cancelled five other shows, including popular fantasy series Shadow and Bone.

Someone complained: "Netflix renewed what instead of Shadow and Bone? I'm just tired and done at this point."

A second questioned: "This show yes but Shadow and Bone not wtf?"

Another agreed: "You should have renewed Shadow and Bone instead!!!"
