New York-based Dr. Rachel Nazarian said that avoiding the potentially harmful rays from the sun is key to youthful skin.

However, with many turning to sunscreen, she provided an alternative and simpler way to protect the body's largest organ.

Purchasing SPF for everyday wear can potentially get pricy.

However, the perfect skincare solution may already be hanging in your closet.

DRESSED FOR SUCCESS

"Protective clothing," she said. "Sunscreen is wonderful, but there’s just so much room for user-error.

"Not applying enough, missing a spot, having to reapply.

"Wearing sun-protective clothing makes everything easier, and oftentimes more effective so you can prevent a lot of the aging that happens over time.

"Especially for athletic and ourdoorsy people and children, or our beach-lovers.

"Getting in the habit of wearing a sun shirt or sun safe clothing can decrease your overall and cumulative exposure to ultraviolet radiation, protecting areas that are often overlooked," she added.

She listed some commonly missed spots when it comes to using topical SPF as a first defense.

"Your shoulders, back, forearms and many other parts of your body," she said.

"Thankfully, the fashion has also evolved, you can find great styles in sun-protective clothing."

BREAK THE GLASS

Dr. Nazarian also recommended a more vigorous approach to achieve healthier skin.

"Lasers, lasers, lasers," she said.

"It may not be first on the list, but at some point in life, the loss of collagen is too rapid to be offset by topical ingredients.

"Innovations in laser technology now allow your skin to create more of your own natural collagen in a safe and effective way."

THE RIGHT ROUTINE

Perviously, Dr. Nazarian has given skincare advice exclusively to The U.S. Sun.

She recommended sunscreen, antioxidants, abstaining from smoking, nightly face-washing, and keeping up with annual skin checks.
