TikTok user Emma showed how you tick off a chart, which starts from 1p for day one and then increases by 1p for each subsequent day.

This means on day two you will save 2p, and on day three you’ll save 3p and so on, until you reach the end of the year.

This means the most you’ll ever have to save is £3.65 for day 365.

By the end of December, you’ll have £667.95, which could be perfect for paying for festive food and family presents.

More on money-saving

On her @life_withemma_, the woman shared how she got a savings jar and started to tick off the various sums on the chart.

She didn’t do it in order, and explained: “we raided our money boxes, put them together and started marking off what we had saved already.

“We tried to mark off as many of the big ones as we could.

From loose change around the house, they managed to do £40 in one go, but vowed to finish the whole grid to help with Christmas.
