‘It’s Iceland on steroids but is it actually worth it?’ savvy woman asks as she’s left divided by The Food Warehouse
A WOMAN has been left with mixed feelings after taking a trip to The Food Warehouse.
Gabrielle, who is known online as Gi, recently visited Iceland’s sister store to see if it was worth the hype.
She described the chain, which is one of the fastest-growing British supermarkets, as ‘Iceland on steroids’, but she questioned ‘is it actually worth it?’
Although Gi, who is Devon-born but is currently studying at University in Plymouth, found epic deals on meat and crisps, and even spotted yoghurts that she described as ‘council estate nostalgia’, she wasn’t impressed with the price of soup or cheese.
Posting on social media, Gi visited the supermarket chain that was formed in 2014, as she questioned: “So is it affordable or is it just a tactic?”
She then looked around the store and said: “This place is quite literally Iceland on steroids. But is it budget friendly and is it actually worth it?

“The first thing I saw was that Christmas puddings were still £2.25 and I'm sorry, hello, it's January should they be discounted now? Christmas is miles away.
“They had all different packs of meat for £1 and these huge 12 ounce sirloin steaks were two for 11 quid, which I thought was really good.
“One thing that kind of worried and disturbed me a little bit was how bad these chickens looked.
“And I'm sorry, £6 for a block of cheese?
“Just gonna unlock some council estate nostalgia for you - these here, top notch yoghurts.
“They did have some really good deals on squash, they had three for £6 and the bottles were 1.75 litres each.
“I also saw this giant bottle of Vimto, but in my opinion it hasn't been the same since the sugar tax, so moving on swiftly.”
Gi then shared her thoughts on the cat food, cereal and soup, as she claimed: “Although some of the items do seem worthwhile, I think they do make up their profits with other items such as cat food, because you can get it much cheaper at Tesco and Pets at Home.
“One thing that is driving up in price at the moment is cereal - porridge oats, two for £4. It's oats. Why is it so expensive?
“And to be honest, I do think they try and throw you off with these deals because I don't actually think they're any good. I mean, eight cans of soup for £7. It's not actually that good.”
The foodie then beamed at the Nando’s seasoning and the crisps, as she concluded: “There's one thing you can count on being a quid, it’s the Nando's rubs. They have not changed in price in years.
“And lastly, lots of crisps, two for £3.”
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @whatgabdid, has clearly left many stunned, as it has quickly amassed 25,800 views in just 20 hours.
One person said: “It used to be such good value for drinks etc but everywhere else is the same now.”
Whilst another added: “Iceland is regularly the cheapest for Sheba cat food. The variation is as much within categories as across them.”
The chain has more than 150 stores across the UK, offering great value deals on a range of foods including brand names.
To find your nearest store you can use the online store locator on the website, where you will also find opening times and other information such as wheelchair accessibility.
