I’m a home stylist and picking the right doors can make a small house feel bigger – my hidden storage hack helps too
A HOME stylist has shared the little-known hacks that can create the illusion of space in a small property.
She said getting “inventive” with maximizing space is one of the key ways to add value to your home.
Jade Oliver is an expert at UK-based company Express Bi-Folding Doors, specializing in home transformations.
She told The U.S. Sun space can come at a premium within homes regardless of the city or town you live.
She revealed the best storage solutions and types of doors to fit your home with to maximize space.
BLUR INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR
Oliver said homes that allow natural light to penetrate deeply feel brighter and more spacious.
Therefore she recommends opting for glass doors where possible.
“By maximizing natural light, rooms can appear larger and more open without the need for additional square footage,” she said.
“Glazed doors such as bi-folding doors, sliding doors or French doors, skylights or floor-to-ceiling windows do exactly that as they give the impression of more space by allowing plenty of light into the home.
“They also connect the indoors with the outdoors, blurring the distinction between interior and exterior spaces and expanding the usable area of the home.
“So, if you’re looking to maximize your space and make it appear bigger than it is, glazing is a great option.
“Having multiple glass surfaces can create the illusion of depth and space by reflecting light and surroundings.”
STYLISH STORAGE
The home stylist said storage solutions that can also be used for seating are a good option for making the most of a small space.
“Window seats with hidden storage are a type of built-in seating arrangement located beneath a window,” she said.
“They don’t only make a cozy reading nook but also offer additional storage as they incorporate concealed storage compartments within the structure, serving a dual purpose.

“Get creative and clever with this layout to see how it might look with different turns, though don’t overcomplicate things and make them messy.”
