But as she digs into why he’s been lying to her, she realises the truth is far darker and that it was he who was responsible for Lauren Bolton’s disappearance.

Solicitor Dee-Dee will then use all her skills to make sure Joel pays for what he’s done.

Actress Channique said: “Dee-Dee is hellbent on bringing Joel down now.

“It’s actually not just a personal crusade, she’s absolutely horrified to find out the truth of who he is and what he has done.

“I think Dee-Dee subconsciously has to stay busy as if she stops and takes note of what has happened, her whole life would fall apart.

“She’s going to throw herself into trying to get justice for his victims, deflecting from her feelings and conflict with herself, and feelings for this person she loved and who still loves her.

“It’s a really complicated thing but her main aim is trying to get justice for those involved.”

But fans hoping for an explosive confrontation will have to wait as Joel has finally met his match with Dee-Dee.

“I find it quite interesting because she doesn’t [blow up at Joel] and that’s what I would do!” Channique added.

“I think she almost needs complete concrete evidence for herself to confront him. Joel is a great liar and manipulator so at this point, Dee-Dee is very aware that he’s got an answer for everything, they are both lawyers after all.

Joel Deering's sick plan for pregnant Lauren Bolton revealed in Coronation Street

“Even though things are falling into place and she’s seen this little flash of his true character, she knows she needs to be careful, but not as careful as she probably should be when she learns the extent of who he really is.”

She added: “The one thing I said to the producers at the start of this storyline was ‘she’s not stupid and I don’t want her to look stupid’ and there’s this whole chapter where she is in the dark.

“It’s been really important to establish this relationship because Joel has gotten to know Dee-Dee so well which has allowed him to manipulate her to the best of his ability.

“A lot of people find themselves in situations where they’ve been deceived and we’ve got to do them justice by not just having them seem like a rose-tinted glasses type of person.

Coronation Street's 2024 shock exits

Corrie has said goodbye to several cast members this year. Let's break down who's left the famous soap:

Eliza Woodrow (Savannah Kunyo) has said farewell to Corrie to start a new life in Germany.

The youngster moved to live with her dad Dom Everett, who went back on the £10,000 bribe Eliza's grandfather Stu had offered to keep him out of her life.

Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) will bow out of the soap this summer when he loses his fight with motor neurone disease (MND) in tragic scenes.

After being diagnosed last year, the fan favourite was devastated to learn he only had months left to live.

Viewers know he is planning to take his own life to end his suffering.

Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) departed the cobbles after being offered the opportunity of a lifetime to study in America.

Though she struggled to decide with her stepdad Paul’s impending death from MND, she was convinced she had to live her life to the full.

Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) has struggled with the sudden departure of his father Peter from the cobbles.

The Weatherfield legend left his family and loved ones behind on Boxing Day, 2023, when his wife Carla Connor encouraged him to travel around the world with a friend.

Simon's been on a downward spiral ever since and his exit could end in tragedy.

Alya Nazir is set to leave the cobbles as actress Sair Khan prepares to go on maternity leave ahead of the birth of her first child.

It looks likely she'll be heading to Dublin after securing a lucrative new job, leaving her colleague and fling Adam Barlow behind.

Show stalwart Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen Grimshaw, is taking a break to star in the Sister Act The Musical UK tour. She will be back filming in May once her dates on the tour come to an end.

Her character left the Street after her son Jason broke his back after falling off a moped in Asia.

“As abusers and narcissists like Joel do, they ensure they have completely sold a different version of who they really are and that was really important for me to portray.”

But will Dee-Dee get justice for Joel’s victims and nail him?
