AN iconic cafe chain has left shoppers distraught after confirming the closure of a much-loved store.
Krispy Kreme has pulled the shutters down its branch on Coney Street in York.
The shop first opened back in September 2017 .
Reacting to the news on Facebook one local shopper said: "Well, this is Yorkshire.
"No-one's going to pay £3 for a doughnut when you can get six for 89p."
Another said: "[Krispy Kreme doughnuts] are nice and worth the price but the shop was too small."

"Rates too expensive for even Krispy Kreme," said a third shopper.
Krispy Kreme UK currently operates over 120 branches.
The brand also operated 1,100 in-store cabinets inside the stores of retail partners, including Tesco, Morrisons, Costco and Center Parcs outlets across the country.
A spokesperson for Krispy Kreme UK & Ireland said: "We regularly review our locations and plan to open a further 15 shops across the UK and Ireland this year.
"While we're sorry to be closing our York city centre shop, we can reassure our many loyal fans in the area that they can still pick up our delicious Original Glazed and many other Krispy Kreme flavours from our cabinets in their local Asda, Sainsbury's and Tesco, or visit our shop in York Designer Village."
Krispy Kreme has not yet revealed where the new stores will be located.
In November, the bakery chain gave away more than 60,000 original glazed doughnuts for free to mark World Kindness Day.
At the time, sweet-toothed fans could get their hands on the free treat, which usually cost around £2.65, at 90 Krispy Kreme stores around the UK.
To bag the deal, you had to ask for the World Kindness Day offer at the checkout.
It's not the first time that Krispy Kreme has run a giveaway like this.
In August, the retailer handed out over 225,000 doughnuts to celebrate England competing in the World Cup.
But unlike the World Kindness Day offer, which was available to all, only those with the rewards app could redeem it the freebies to celebrate the World Cup.
The Krispy Kreme Rewards scheme earns you "Smiles" every time you make a purchase.
Customers earn 10 smiles for every £1 spent.
Once you've earned enough you can redeem rewards in Krispy Kreme stores and online.
You can download the bakery chain's app on any smartphone via Google Play or the Apple App Store to sign up.
A foodie recently shared her recipe for delicious air fryer doughnuts that are just like Krispy Kreme's famous original glazed.
Why are retailers closing stores?
Retailers have been feeling the squeeze since the pandemic, while shoppers are cutting back on spending due to the soaring cost of living crisis.
High energy costs and a move to shopping online after the pandemic are also taking a toll, and many high street shops have struggled to keep going.
The high street has seen a whole raft of closures over the past year and more are on their way.
Several major brands have also collapsed, such as Wilko and Paperchase.
British retailers saw the amount of goods they sold drop last month at its fastest rate in three years as under-pressure families shifted part of their Christmas shop to earlier in the year.
Sales volumes dipped by 3.2% in December, data from the Office for National Statistics suggests, down from a rise of 1.4% a month before.
Several big-name chains are pulling down the shutters for the final time this month.
Lidl will be pulling the shutters down on its site in Thornaby at the end of this month.
