People are missing out on an underrated ingredient to fight oily hair – my go-to is a body spray I use on my scalp
A SKINCARE pro has shared an ingredient that she thinks is a must-have for combatting oily hair.
Her top drugstore skincare product also doubles as a body spray that she can use on her scalp.
Board-certified dermatologist Shereene Idriss (@shereeneidriss) shares helpful tips online through her TikTok account.
In a TikTok video, she revealed the "most underrated" ingredient for oily hair.
"Salicylic acid is an exfoliating acid that is oil-loving and that helps to regulate sebum production in the long run," she said.
Shereene added that if you use it two or three times a week, about an hour before you wash your hair, it can help regulate your scalp.
"You may end up producing less oil over time, requiring you to wash your hair less," she explained.
Viewers rushed to the comments asking for recommendations on which products to use.
She didn't hold back in another TikTok video about how you can get the best beauty bang for your buck and offered some suggestions.
Shereene brought viewers on a trip to her local drugstore, where she picked out her top three items to combat an oily scalp.
The Differin Acne Treatment with Salicylic Acid Body Spray, $18.99, was her go-to that kept her body pimple-free and her scalp clear of oils.
She liked it because of the spray effect, which makes it easier to put it all over your scalp the night before or an hour before you wash your hair, allowing it to "sink in."
Next on her list was the Neutrogena T-Sal Therapeutic Shampoo, which has 3% salicylic acid and is great for build-up.
"Just make sure it gets scalp time with your scalp, meaning you allow it to sit on before you wash it off," she advised.
Lastly, if you want something more direct, she suggested using salicylic acid droppers on "the areas where you feel you need it most."
Viewers appreciated her tips and made that known in the comments.
"T/Sal works so well for itchy or dandruff scalp. Love it," one commented.
"Thank you for this information. It’s great!!" a fan wrote.
"Ahh, I use T/Sal. My fave dandruff shampoo from Neutrogena. 10/10," another TikTok user said.
